Hope you all don't give importance to this question. Italians don't hate sicily at all, I'm from Tuscany not from Sicily and I love all my country. Just hope he will feel guilty when he goes on holiday to that wounderful land, for every smile and every warm welcome he will receive... they really are great people.

I'm from Milan and most people there hate Romans more than they hate Sicilians LOL.
In general, those from the North "hate" those from the South because they think they are lazy, they hardly work, and the North has to support them.
Now, I suppose the thing with Sicilians is due to the fact that mafia was born there and they exported it to the rest of Italy and the US too, thus contributing to the stereotype that Italians are "mafiosi".
That's silly, though. Sicily is a beautiful place, and most Sicilians are nice people.
If we hate each other within the same country, how can we ask foreigners not to hate us??? And believe me, Italians aren't really popular on Yahoo Answers, especially in the Fifa World Cup category... LOL

Sicilians are Italians, they are just for Sicily, not Rome like you. Which that makes you a Roman, right? So shouldn't your question be why do Romans hate Sicilians? Which I'm sure not all Romans hate Sicilians, you are just full of hate.

Many northern Italians denegrate the south, Naples, Calabria, Sicily as peasants and gangsters... Rather like being part black, touched by the Moors. I've been to Sicily several times and found it a strange and exiciting place with wonderful food. The dialect is a bit odd and caused me to get a C+ in the Italian language class I was taking...the instructor was from Rome.
