my cat fell into my bath and screamed like i've never heard before. i rescued her and wrapped her in towels. so she comes to watch me bathe all time, and yesterday, she walked too close to shampoo bottles in the corner of the tub. she fell in, and as i tried to pull her out, she scratched me so badly!

why do they fear deep water? why do they like standing in the shower, only feeling little droplets of water on their bodies?

Cats are not afraid of water, they just hate it. If you bring a cat up by taking baths, it wont hate water, it will eventually start to enjoy it. Just make sure its warm water that you bathe the cat/kitten in.

ALSO:
love status quo, and prefer routine above all else. Water—especially when used for a bath (shudder!)—is the unexpected at its worst, according to the cat. Water running into the sink or bathtub sounds scary besides. And often, water gets into the cat’s eyes or ears—that’s not only potentially painful, but frightens the cat even more when she can’t see or hear normally.

Cat fur sheds moisture so even a cat caught in the rain has the ability to keep her skin pretty warm and dry. But a dunking soaks the fur clear to the skin, strips away that insulating cushion of body-warmed air caught at skin level, and feels unexpected and distasteful to the cat. Wet fur clings to the skin, adds uncomfortable weight to heavily furred felines, and interferes with fur function. After all, dry fur can be fluffed to send a bragging message to other cats, or to allow a cool breeze access to the skin.

That’s not to say that cats fear water all the time. Water preference varies between individuals, and when water encounters are on the cat’s terms, many kitties enjoy dabbling a paw in the water bowl or fish tank. And with patience, some cats can be trained to accept bathing—after all, show kitties are bathed all the time. In fact, one gorgeous breed called the Turkish Van, or the "Turkish Swimming Cat" loves water so much they may join you in the bathtub!

I think its because once they get really wet it takes so long to clean themselves up like they want again...lol When I bathe my cats, since ive done it since they we young, they dont like it, but they dont scratch either. They just look so coldand uncomfortable when im done and I can see why they dont like it lol I have to keep them wrapped in a towel for like 20 minutes before they feel dry enough to want to leave my lap ;oP

I've been thinking about trying to see if my cats want to come swimming with me but it's been so hot that it just seems best to leave them at home with the a/c on instead of bringing them to my parent's house where it isn't airconditioned

cats have skin that doesn't push the water away like ares and other things do. Theres absorb it the insint it touches, plus the fur gets naughted and absorbs too, cats have a better chance of drownung, and they know it! plus cats just dont like water.
