Its quite small and pale blue, I really want it to look more interesting without cluttering it up or making it look tacky, thanks for any help! (I don't have much money so I can't completely change it)

The success of any decorating scheme depends on how well it suits all the members of your family. To create a décor that you will be happy with, think about what you want and also what you don’t want.

It’s a good idea to know what you have before you begun to change things. As you begin to pull your design ideas together, think about your preference and what will work in your home.

Color can work wonders... it can change the look of a room and change your feeling about the room. You can start by looking through magazines, and catalogs. Give yourself plenty of time, it will take longer than you think, and your ideas will develop as you go.

Gathering samples is a great way to begin. If you are starting with a color, your samples might include fabric, paint chips, wallpaper, carpet, wood, stone, and tile.

Knowing what you can spend on a project will give you a clearer idea of what you can achieve. If you’ll on a limited budget, mark off those things that will make the most difference, such as a new wall color and a new sofa.

You can set the mood of a room in lots of ways, such as lights, and furnishings. There are no hard or fast rules or must-do sequence for this process.

How about a border with a mix of colors to compliment the pale blue. Mirrors also make a room look larger. Another idea is find a window someone is getting rid of paint any color you want, get a pair of shutters, sometimes you can find them at Goodwill or Salvation Army stores and paint them an accent color. Where the clear window pane is replace with a piece of mirror, attach painted shutters using small hinges. If you can attach a piece of wood at the base of the window for a shelf. Place a small electric candle on the shelf and maybe some small framed pictures, or you can make the shelf a flower box and add silk flowers. This project really perks up a room. Good Luck

How much is not much? You would be surprised how far you can stretch a buck. I want so much to go back to school to be an interior decorator. I have a natural nack for color and arranging furniture. The first thing I suggest you do is look through magazines and circle or clip out pictures of rooms that you realy like. Try to narrow down what your own personal taste is. Is it Contemporary? Traditional? Country? or Modern? And then keep in mind the furniture that you already have. If your furniture is dark, you may want to consider painting it. This will help open up the space making it appear larger and fresher. You can then bring in color with a new rug and accent your table tops with green leafed plants or colored florals to bring a bit of color into the room. I could better help you if I knew your age group and personal style. I hope I was of some help.

If your room is quite small then you should use light pastel colours as this doesn't bring the walls in and make the room look smaller. Do NOT use loud bright dark colours as these colours draw the walls in and do make the room look smaller. A light pale lilac is quite a nice colour or natural colours like sand, beige, cream or stone are IN just now, but I always think a nice colour that reflects your personality is what is required in your own room or space. If you are on a budget you can always jazz up your room with more vibrant coloured accesories like cushions and candles and throws on your bed. If you are going for lilac bright pinks and purples are a good idea. The main thing is to have fun and love what you are doing good luck and I hope it turns out just the way you want.

Wooo you'll have so much fun! I redesigned my room a few years ago, and thanks to the help of an interior designer, it still looks lush!
Well my room is fairly large but I'll give you tips on what I know about small rooms...
Pale and bright colours like peach, cream and coffee make a room feel more spacious and airy. Avoid large-print wallpaper, it will make it feel more cramped.
Space-saving furniture is a good investment, try to keep it simple in design but modern with clean-cut edges.
Chose a complementary colour for your curtain and bed-cover fabric.
I wouldn't recommend borders or stencils. If you want the room to look interesting choose an unusual lamp shade (habitat have gorgeous ones), and a wall light if possible. A nice big colourful print also looks great on a blank wall.
Don't put rugs in a small room, a wooden floor or plain carpet is best- too pale stains easily though!
Try not to put too many hings in the room which could date quickly, but choose tasteful colours that aren't too strong and furniture which is attractive.

Hope this helps!

With pale blue, chocolate brown and silver make a great color combination. Go with really sleek silver lamps and any accent pieces for the room--like a jewelry box or vase. Then, use the chocolate brown and pale blue colors for the bed covers. Try pale blue sheers for curtains, with a chocolate brown valance. Use dark wooden venetian blinds for privacy/light control if you have the money, or just inexpensive shades if you don't. You could stick with just solid colors, or find a simple geometric or large, kind of tropical print in the chocolate, brown and silver or white combination for throw pillows. If your furniture is dark brown, this will work really well. You could even change the dresser hardware to pewter, nickel or silver to dress things up more. Look for a SMALL silver chandelier to hang over the bed, as a swag, or to replace your current ceiling light fixture.

Its like picking a new haircut or dress. Find a color or idea that screams "YOU". Then run with it.
I just did this last month. I went to the Pier I Imports website and fell in LOVE with the look of 1 of the rooms. I printed the page- took it to my local Pier 1- and they hooked me up!! http://www.pier1.com/default.aspx

Im having a Martini "black & white" party- that will be off the hook! All decor was from Pier 1 and I even got a discount bc I showed my college ID!!

How about just rearranging it? Sometimes all you need to do is move the furniture around a bit and re-use your accessories to make you happier with it.

And while your at it, sort through your things: trash, charity or consignment shop....a neat, clean organized space can do wonders for your mood.

As new decor....if you have any money at all, I would head for the nearest Ikea...they've always got tons of cheap and cheerful items.

Use the blue as a theme of sky... think outside. Add space with mirrors! You can also use lots of whites with black accent pieces, add a touch of grey for throw pillows or silver grey (satin silver) in light fixtures! Wood tone use a light maple/birch color (keep it light for small room). There you will achieve a retro modern look!

Good luck!
