I have applied for disability, I was recently sent a letter asking for a bank account number for benefits to be deposited into. Does this mean I was approved? If so when can I expect payments to begin? I am in Maine if that makes a difference.

Please make a phone call to your case worker, or Social Security Office, to make sure that it's not a scam.
There are so many cases of stolen identities today, and you may be giving a criminal full access to your account without even knowing.
You can't be too careful these days!

I am in Minnesota and applied for disability for my 9 yr old daughter and they asked for account information to verify income and what money I had on hand and they gave me option to set up direct deposit before they even processed claim but I am still dealing with the process which with my daughters condition can take a while and even a few appeals before she can get it and she has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).

You can call them and ask them. To me it sounds as though you may be getting payments, they may have a website to go to and it can give you information ON your case too. check into it.

try these two sites for information.

Sorry to read of your disability. I would say, yes it does mean you are approved but then again you are dealing with a strictly bureaucratic agency and they do love their paper...

I certainly do hope you were approved, if that makes you feel any better.

Good Luck.

No one gets a disability from a letter. You are born with it or you have an accident or you get sick.
Did you see Simpsons when Homer tried to eat himself into a claim? Is that you?

I does not necessarily mean you were approved. You will get a letter of approval when you are.
