I loved it as a kid, because of all the attention, and i hate it as an adult for the same reason. I wish i had someone else to gripe about the 'rents with! This is why i had the forward-thinking to have 3 kids, so they'll have someone to commisserate with, and i will be able to annoy not just one grown child, but three! (insert evil laughter here)

I'm technically a second child, and raised an "only" child by adoption, but also the "third" in the adoptive family (adoptive parents were in their mid 40's and mom's children were already out of the nest when I was adopted).
I love it and hate it for WAY too many reasons to list.

Technically, I am the third child, but my siblings are MUCH older than I am -- so it was like being an only child. I liked getting my way, more attention and being Daddy's girl -- BUT it was lonely not having anyone to play with at home.

I am the youngest of five, I'd prefer that to be an only child, even if you have toshare everything, and you don't get spoiled because there is always someone to model yourself after, and give you advice and to learn from their mistakes so that you don't have to make them yourself.
