My baby is turning 1 in late August and I can't think of anything that is appropriate for her age, but will keep the older kids entertained. Any ideas??

One of my favorite activities for older kids is a spin on a cake walk. Write numbers on card stock or construction paper and tape to the floor in a circle, then play a silly music CD while the kids walk the circle stopping every few seconds to draw a coordinating number or two out of a hat. Whoever has stopped on that number wins a small prize, like those found at party supply stores. An older child can even be in charge of playing the music. I have done this a birthday parties, Halloween parties, and school parties and it is always a hit with children of all ages.

Also for my son's first birthday I made a cake that was "blocks" with the letters of his name. Bake a regular 9x13 cake or two for extra long names, cut into even squares and decorate each block. Then at cake time give your one-year-old her own block to eat. She will make a mess, but have a blast.

I would do something very sweet and simple. Nothing over the top its her day not the other kids. I made the mistake of having a big blowout for my daughters 1st b day and it was a big mistake. I spent more time and money on all the other kids having fun and eating when she had no idea what was going on. With my new baby I plan on having close friends and family over for dinner and cake and icecream. I'll have more money to spend on his presents and more fun wathcing him open them. Thats what one year old like anyway rippig presents open, they dont care how many people are there. Just remember when your child gets older the expensive bithrdays will start so take atvantage of the cheap but, fun birhtdays now

What is the decor motif in her room? Start with that. Usually, at this age - colors, big and bright would be the most attractive. Feature animals that are not scary (Mickey Mouse),. If you are taking her somewhere- use the yellow pages to find a local in your town that promotes youth birthdays (especially for younger children). If you are doing it yourself - consider backyard blow up toys - jungle gyms, bouncy stuff - safe and rockfree. Lots of balloons, face painting, music. Throw in a couple of pinatas, a small backyard blow up pool, to keep the kids cooled off. Lots of ice cream and mushy cake she can get her hands into. My daughter's first birthday 20 years ago was celebrated at McDonalds. Then, they made a bigggggggg thing out of birthdays. She had just awoke and was so quiet. It took about two hours before she really got into the party. All she knew was lots of people were around and lots of packages were placed in front of her to rip open. She loved that part! Make sure you place instant cameras on the tables so everybody can get pictures of everybody. Have much fun!

Pretty Princess. because every little girl is a princess, Buy her a little tria and A little Play dress. You can buy the pretty princess plates and cups or you can buy all Pink plates, cups , forks ,spoons, and table cloths. Then go to a party store ang get alot of pretty princess balloons. Decorate her highchair with rinstones and pink streamer, Tell her she is the princess TODAY. Happy Birthday to your princess. Take lots of Pictures and make a scrapbook or photo alubm,of each b-day and she will rember eveyone. She will love to look at them when she is older and it showes you how much she has grown. Lots of luck and calmness. Because 1st birthdays are crazy

my first b-day party was held at a park...food and a place to chill for the adults...place for the older kids to play...they set up a baby place on the pavillion with toys and such for the babies (that's where most of the adults were) from what I have heard...it was a pretty good pt...but keep it simple the first b-day party is more for the adults and older kids than for the baby (just another day to him or her...if not more stressful and crazy)

Have fun with it, but make it fun for the ADULTS. Your baby is only going to be a year old; do you honestly think they're going to know what's going on - or even remember??? Certainly not!

If you're having some older kids, you can have activities for them as well, but really don't bother focusing all your time, energy and money on your baby. They HONESTLY won't care or remember!

To keep the older ones busy, give them water balloons or games for them, and lots of food and candy. Then all of the adults will pay attention to the 1 year old and she'll just look soooo cute!!!

Give her a princess & prince themed party. I guess. She can most definetly dress up as a cute princess, and her guests *the babies lol* they can dress up as princesses and princes. You can have a puppet show, some stuff like that lol. A clown, that shapes balloons and stuff.

keep it simple she won't remember it anyway. do ice cream and cake. invite the grandparents over for dinner and after wards do the cake and ice cream. you can get a small character place setting like Elmo or Disney princess just for the cake. save the big parties for when she can enjoy them
