I think that's what I had (I forget what it's called). The muscle that connects my top lip to my gum went between my two front teeth and attached in the back, so I always had a gap between my teeth that even braces couldn't fix. The gum surgeon just cut the muscle and stitched it where it's supposed to be. He just used novacaine like at the dentist, but I didn't feel anything. I had stitches for a little while and it was a little uncomfortable, but definitely not terribly painful. Afterward, the orthodontist was able to close the gap and it's stayed closed for almost 10 years now. Hope this helps you!

Usually a frenula is removed because it is pulling on the gums of the tooth causing the tooth to lose gum attachment thus called recession. When a frenula is removed, it relieves the pressure of the gum surrounding the tooth from pulling away from the tooth. Yes, it does work. No, I have not had it done. I have seen many people who have had it done. It is not a big time procedure. It will heal fairly quickly, as most mouth sores do.
