we are not physical bodies with a spirit inside us
we are spirit with a physical body
i dont like the term the living dead as we never die , we just go to the next level
and yes i would say that we do have a pre physical life existence also , although i am sure this would be a breif person before we inhabit a physical body
a time to have an overview so to speak of the life we will be taking and choose if this is the life we wish that would hold the lessons we need

The thing that animates your body--call it spirit or consciousness or whatever--existed before your body, just as it will continue after your body's death. The nature of consciousness is that it exists, period. You could say that a "piece" of it is in your body.

"The living dead" would apply more to people who don't realize this fact about their own existence, and if you observe them you can see why this label would fit.

People who believe in an afterlife have all different kinds of ideas about the afterlife, and none of them is any more right or any less "living dead" if they don't really understand for themselves.

Pangel has the correct view, we are spirit soul temporarily covered by a gross material body that has been awarded to us to perfectly match the mentality created by desires and actions in previous lives. As spirit souls, we are eternally, part and parcel of the supreme soul or God, our original position is a personal, loving, interactive relationship with the supreme, but due to mis-use of free will (Real love is unconditional), we have been placed in the material world to enact those desires and activities separately from God and the spiritual world. However as soon as the living entity realises this error, then the door to liberation from the repetition of birth and death opens.

The egoless state is one's acceptance of the death of the physical body as I'm sure you know and understand, hence the living dead suggestion. One doesn't become dead exactly infact in this state one has more fun then ever before.
The eventual dropping off of the physical body will be a doddle after the many practice runs brought by meditation of all the hyperthetical situations one can die in. In preparation of physical death one over-comes all fears. A life without fear is FREEDOM. Freedom to be in every moment exactly what one chooses to be. Easier of course if one has the life of a recluse, but there even if one hasn't. To be perfect in every moment is to enjoy life to the full.

Read this passage from the Bible.
Hebrews Ch9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Hebrews Ch9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

There is an afterlife but only if you put your trust and believe in God and that he sent his son, Jesus, to save us.
Every person. I believe has a pre-death premonition. All my loved ones knew that they were dying before they actually did.

Our afterlife is a return to our origins as spirits...as we were before we came here. "Living Dead"...hm...in a loose way, it seems appropriate. The living dead are those who do not know they are also spirits. You seem to know a lot about it.

Sadly not.

There is only the waiting womb, the theatre of life and then the fiery exit at the end.
