With in a span of 10 to 20 years, (maybe a lot less, given the way they fight each other with their gangs, etc.) the area returned to corrupt Mexican rule would be as poverty ridden as Mexico is at present.

Mexico is not a poor country, they have plenty of natural resources. It is the corrupt Castillian rule behind the scenes that is at fault. Revolutions have changed nothing there and nothing will change until the Mexican people fight for change and don't sell out or run to another country.

It is already on its way. When the "reconquista" comes about, it will already be at the level of mexico, since the definition of reconquista is basically creating northern mexico out of the southwest.
