well, you can turn off your flash and use natural light from the windows, sun, etc. to properly light it.

Natural lighting is the best way to bring out the features of a black animal. Make sure that the sun is behind you, so that the side you're taking a picture of receives the most light, but be careful that your shadow doesn't get in the way! =D

do not photograph them face on, photograph them from and angle or do not use a built in flash, use one with a tilt head and bounce the light off of the ceiling...also helps from getting "red eye".

put a plain white piece of paper over the flash
