they think it makes them more safe/secure, when actually the opposite is true, since the flood of SUVs on the road the amount of traffic related deaths have increased, both for the cars these soccer moms run over, and also for the soccer moms who tend to roll their SUVs over a lot...

There have also been studies to show that many SUV drivers tend to be more antisocial and selfish, putting their own safety above the others around them...

Note, 9 times out of 10 if you see someone doing something stupid in a car... 12 point k-truns... 10 minute parrallell parking jobs... merging without looking... etc. they are usually soccer moms on cell-phones in SUVs... they are the very people that they are trying to protect themselves from by driving these bohemouths...

and people think that if they have an SUV they look like sporty independent mothers... instead of soccer moms trapped in minivans... and their husbands can drive them too... this will all change within a few years... socially trends always respond ten-fold to things that flood the market... so in a few years SUV moms will be looked down on much more than minivan moms ever were... not to mention the gas prices... i hope it goes to 5-10 dollars a gallon, then people will finally start making sensible decisions... think globally act locally...

Because they're dimwits who believe everything they see in 4x4-manufacturers' ads on the telly and in the trendy Motoring mags and supplements. They also probably don't know what to do with all that salary dosh flooding monthly into their bank accounts, matching their lack of sense. All off-road vehicles should be banned on-road, especially in this tight little island of Britain.

I agree, I think it has to do with fashion and the specific culture of the area... While living in Texas, I noticed that there were huge car lots with thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of 4x4s. They were the only style available. In the south, I guess they're considered "fashionable."

Also, while in New Orleans, several people (on separate occassions) asked me why so many New Yorkers drove Hummers (I'm originally from New York). I was genuinely stumped. My friends from New Orleans had concluded that the reason why so many New Yorkers drove around in Hummers was because NY must have alot of mountains. I'm guessing that in New York, Hummers are considered "fashionable."

no person that owns yuppie automobiles like those has ever taken them off highway. i've got been 4x4'ing for years and have never considered a BMW X5, nor any sort of variety Rover, Hummer, the Mercedes 4x4, or any of those frilly types off highway. maximum if no longer all are owned via soccer mothers and could never ever see a dirt driveway, no longer to show an off highway section. Our 4x4 club as quickly as say a Hummer on a dirt highway that a Cadillac could have pushed on! as properly none of them are real 4x4's because of the fact none of them rigidity all 4 wheels on the comparable time...... all ineffective yuppie automobiles! no longer one in all them ought to start to circulate into aspects that our 4x4 team is going into.

Like most silly things humans do...they are a bunch of lemmings and will do or say what is popular at the time. Their neighbor gets an SUV or 4X4 and now theynhave to have one. Most humans are incapable of independent thinking and thusly you have soccer moms tooling around in big SUV's taking the kids to the movies. Their excuse of course is if the weather gets bad they can go...here's a clue people...if the weather is THAT bad...stay home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's just a status symbol. It's kind of a waste if you're not going to use your vehicle off road or for what it's really designed for.

Most of them in London are only showing off. They don't usually have enough kids to fill them for the school trip so it's one car one kid and ONE HELL OF A JAM! Because they can afford to buy and run them, they can afford the congestion and parking charges too, but you can put your life on it that 90% of them don't know where the nearest bit of country actually IS let alone go 'off road'. "OFF ROAD?" I hear them scream... "WHY, SURELY THAT WOULD MEAN GETTING THEM DIRTY...."
See what I mean. If they were to take them off road, the likes of US wouldn't be able to ADMIRE them, would we.....

I saw a guy with a Hummer going down the road at five miles an hour as there was this pothole and he didn't want to wreck his car.

Huh?
