Depending on the tooth and the procedure it can be painful for a few days to a week or so. Simple tooth extraction does not hurt more then a day or so, but the area is still sensitive when you eat and drink.

The pain should only last a few days and decrease steadily. You may want to go back and see your dentist to check is something is wrong like an infection.

there shouldn't be much pain after a day or so. if you are in a lot of pain, you could have a "dry socket" which is an infection. if that is the case, make an appointment to see your dentist.

Give it a few days and then you should start to feel better and better. If it starts to feel worse and worse after 3-5 days, call the dental office.
