Jesus was a carpenter because his earthly father was a carpenter. Also - he was a healer by miracle, not by medicine - Luke was a physician.

Healing the sick and feeding the hungry were outstanding displays of loving compassion, but they were not the primary ways in which Jesus helped others.

Jesus' primary purpose of coming to the earth was to preach the good news about God's Kingdom, which will solve all health problems permanently. Jesus had said: “To other cities I must declare the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this I was sent forth.” (Luke 4:43.)

Jesus’ active preaching about the Kingdom was at the core of the reason why he came to earth. Near the end of his earthly ministry, Jesus told Pilate: “For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone that is on the side of the truth listens to my voice.” (John 18:37)

In the Gospel accounts, Jesus was frequently addressed as “Teacher” but never as “Healer.”

Why, then, did Jesus perform miraculous cures? Principally it was to establish his identity as the promised Messiah.

The main objective of Jesus’ ministry was not to heal the sick and perform other miracles. Rather, he made the preaching of the good news of God’s Kingdom his main work. (Matthew 9:35; Luke 4:43; 8:1.) That Kingdom is the means by which God will accomplish the miraculous healing of mankind and undo all the damage that sin and imperfection have wreaked upon the human family. How and when will he accomplish this?

Good question. He resurrected his friend Lazarus from death. But where is Lazarus now? He lived on, grew old and DIED AGAIN. Now all mankind is subject to death, having to die. Why? because when God created Adam and Eve, having to die was not in God's plan. It was meant for them to live forever. But God warned them that if they disobeyed [ ate the fruit] THEY WOULD DIE. And they did, eventually. So we inherited death. But Jesus' sacrifice has paid a ransom and bought back for us the opportunity to again live forever. It will start once the world is cleansed. by God, of all wickedness.
Revelation 21;4. Jesus' benefit is far greater than had he been a doctor. Even if he had been a doctor, all those who he cured would also now be long dead. All those he cured then are long dead. They will all get another chance to live again. Rev. 20;12 & 13. Through the promised resurrection

The difference between a doctor and Jesus is that Jesus did not think he was a doctor.

Healing was one of the signs that He was the true Messiah. It was not His primary goal. He was here to heal souls not bodies.
