Simple reason.....Because the grim spectre of nuclear holocaust will cause us to look into the dark abyss and cringe....global suicide is something that's hard to acknowledge, therefore we cannot accept that the current fighting will lead to WWIII.

The majority of mankind cannot face reality, as shown by the majority (80%) who believe in some kind of supernatural religion, even tho there's no empirical evidence to support that belief.

You could say that this is a continuation of picking up the pieces of WW3 as in the Cold War, I mean, we're fighting with people trained and equipped due to the Cold War. The west planted some wepons and whatnot in the area, and now we have to clean it up.

i'm of the belief that there won't be another WORLD war, perse....it will be a bunch of regional wars backed by the world powers....example:
africa: somalia is in civil war fought between US backed local warlords and middle eastern backed islamic army
middle east: US backed israel and iran/syria backed hezbollah
the hot button topic now: n. korea (backed by china and russia and the UN backed by US
and finally iran which kinda goes without saying is backed by their peers against the US and some members of the UN...
we'll see how it all turns out....i hope anyway
