Can anyone tell me where the UPC gets their beliefs... scripturally? The "Trinity". I know where that comes from. Can anyone give me several scriptures that go against the Trinity. That are about God being all three.. One-ness. ?? I'm Trinitarian... I just want to know what their argument is?? I know they use several scriptures.. but I don't know what they are?

Serious people only! That know what they are talking about please.

I believe that whether you baptize in the Trinity or in Jesus' name.. It doesn't matter. If you are the UPC, they say... you can only be baptized in Jesus' name.. but, if they believe that all three are Jesus, wouldn't it be the same thing? Just a different way of saying it? I think that God is very merciful and I don't think that he would send Trinitarians to hell if they were wrong.. because that isn't part of something that will save you. We still pray in Jesus' name.. we still pray to the Lord just the same. Why would he make it so difficult to know the truth? Why would it say that "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only SON" .. why wouldn't the scriptures say, "For God so loved the world, that he came to the earth in the flesh and gave himself" Why would he make it so complicated... especially with so many people in the world.. who wouldn't be able to comprehend the scriptures? Why would he make it so difficult for those people? I don't think he would.

Here are some guidelines that UPC upholds. I'm not Pentecostal but a friend of mine is and I got this info from him.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR CHRISTIANS

1. Speaking in other tongues. Acts 2:38

2. Being faithful in church attendance, and tithing and offerings.
Hebrews 10:25 – “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is;”
Malachi 3:8, 10 -“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have e robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there
may be meat in mine house…….”
3. Do not attend movie theatres, watch ungodly T.V. or video programs.
Psalms 119:101 - “I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep thy word.”
Psalms 101:3 – “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.”

4. Do not read unwholesome books or magazines.
Philemon 4:8 – “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

5. Do not use alcohol, illicit drugs, or tobacco in any form.
1 Corinthians 3:17 – “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy which temple ye are.”
Titus 2:6 – “Young men likewise exhort to be soberminded.”

6. Jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces, earrings, finger rings, etc.(wedding rings only exception)
1 Timothy 2:9 – “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with
shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;”

7. Apparel of the opposite sex(i.e. women wearing pants)
Deuteronomy 22:5 – “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”

8. Wearing modest clothing and avoiding things such as….(women: low-cut, see-through, or sleeveless \
blouses, tight revealing garments, any garment that would draw sensual attention). (Men: going
without a shirt, wearing shorts, or tight immodest slacks).
1 Peter 3:5 – “For after this manner in the old time, holy women also, who trusted the in god, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:”

9. Makeup(i.e. – lipstick, eye shadow, rouge, etc. Prostitutes in the Bible wore paint.)
Ezekiel 23:40, Jeremiah 4:30, Proverbs 6:25

10. Singles: Behave in a Christian manner in the company of the opposite sex. No petting, necking, or
fondling of the opposite sex. Save yourself for the marriage partner God has chosen for you.
1 Corinthians 7:1-2, 9 – “It is good for a man not to touch a women. Nevertheless, to avoid
fornification, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband….but if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.”

11.If a woman, do not attempt to shorten your hair by cutting, burning, applying chemicals, etc. If a man,
keep your hair neat and modest in length.
1 Corinthians 11:14-15 – “Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given for a covering.



12. Willingly submit to your Pastor’s Biblical and Spiritual authority.
Hebrews 12:17 – “obey them that have rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”

13. Do your best to pray before each of your church services.
James 5:16 – “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be
healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

You don't need to be Pentecostal. There is no mention of the trinity in the Bible either way. There was a big argument after Christianity started about whether Jesus was only human or only God. If he was only human than his death would not be enough of a sacrifice and if he were only God, he could not have actually "died" and been resurrected. so it was decided that he had to be both.

The HS is mentioned in the bible as a separate entity, but does the work that only God can do, so if you say he is separate he would be another god -- that's no good. You also can't say the HS is just God because it is mentioned in the bible

So you have the trinity -- I think the argument is that the Trinity is not from the Bible, but made up by men. I am not sure they are wrong

For another poster - UPC = United Pentecostal Church. It's actually an organizations of churches.

I grew up in a UPC church (no longer attend). I can tell you that the UPC interprets the Bible literally - hence the "holiness standard" at many churches (women can't cut their hair or wear makeup or slacks). The one God belief comes from the scripture which says, "There is one God and you put no other Gods before me." They consider what most people consider a trinity to be mainfestations of all one God - different parts of him. God's son, Jesus, was God himself on earth while the Holy Spirit is another aspect of that one God that can infuse man.

I'm sorry I can't provide you with scriptures. Though I grew up in the church and attended the church school, I've been out of there for about 17 years now.

They baptize in Jesus name and not the Holy Trinity because the Holy Trinity is generally accepted to be three gods while Jesus was the first person to baptize and hence because of the literal translation of the Bible - or King James version, Jesus is God on earth.

You pretty much have it right. Christian churches are all supposed to be evangelical, and they all think that they are. But some churches go out more fervently to gain converts than others. There are different degrees of fundamental churches, as well; believing every world of "their Bible". Problem is, there are many translations. Errors in translation from the ancient manuscripts have been found in the King James version. There are MANY other versions, conveniently translated to fit the needs of particular denominations, but most popular versions are approved by a substantial number of theologians, and the differences are generally only argued over by other theologians. A huge exception is the version that the Jehovah Wittnesses use. Glaring errors noted by nearlyall accredited scholars of Hebrew and Greek and the ancient texts. Fundamentalists and scientists have a hard time reconciling themselves to each other. The world and everything in it, they believe, was created some twelve thousand years or so ago, in six days. Less fundamental churches explain that differently. Goes on and on, like Noah and the Ark, the first rainbow occurring then, etc. Of course in Pentecostal churches, some are possessed of the Holy Spirit nearly weekly, others aren't; getting down in the floor is popular with many.

The Book of Acts and the event called the Pentacost. I am sorry to answer your question and I'm not UPC, but I believe that the Pentacost event was done because of what was predicted in the scriptures previously that men will dream dreams and speak in tongues. This is called fulfilling the Law and HAD to be done by God. But - I don't think people should be chasing after these spiritual gifts all the time.

well The Trinity believe that the Holy ghost is a God also along with GOD and Jesus. The Truth is that The holy ghost is GOD's Spirit that he sent as a comforter to help us deal with our problems.
You really Need to go talk to your Pastor

Very good question because they do only baptize in Jesus name and not according to how Jesus said to baptize in Matthew 28:18-20
