Lymph nodes are glands that play an important part in your body's defense against infection. They produce lymph, which travels throughout your body in the lymph system , and filters impurities from the body.
Common areas where the lymph nodes can be felt (with the fingers) include:
Groin
Armpit
Neck (there is a chain of lymph nodes on either side of the front of the neck, both sides of the neck, and down each side of the back of the neck)
Under the jaw and chin
Behind the ears
On the back of the head
Lymph nodes can become swollen from infection, inflammatory conditions, an abscess , or cancer. Other causes of enlarged lymph nodes are rare. By far, the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection.
When swelling appears suddenly and is painful, it is usually caused by injury or an infection. Enlargement that comes on gradually and painlessly may, in some cases, result from cancer or a tumor .
Infections that commonly cause swollen lymph nodes include mononucleosis, German measles (rubella), tuberculosis, mumps, ear infection, tonsillitis, an abscessed or impacted tooth, gingivitis (swelling of the gums), mouth sores , and sexually transmitted diseases.
Which lymph nodes are swollen depends on the type of problem and the body parts involved. Identifying the location can help determine the possible cause.
Immune or autoimmune disorders that can cause swollen lymph nodes include rheumatoid arthritis and HIV . Cancers that can cause swollen glands include leukemia, Hodgkin's disease , or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma .

well first of all don't let any doctor tell you are too young because that is a crock!! i was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma which is cancer of the lymph nodes i was only 22 years old. It all started because i had a lymph node in my neck and i had a biopsy on the lymph nodes and they took out 10 of them and all were benine but one and it was cancerous. i have had cancer three different times and every time it comes back it is a lymph node in my armpit or my chest. so my advice to you is don't take no for an answer you get whatever test done that you need to and no your not to young! life's to short and most doctors don't really care its not their life i have learned my lesson because when i first noticed the lump i was treated for mono for 2 months before i convinced them something was wrong I'm a mother of 5 children and i never hesitate a lump better safe than sorry. i hope i didn't scare you i just hate it when docs don't listen i am walking proof that it happens to any one of any age. hope this helps have a good day

There are lymph nodes all over your body. What makes you say you can feel the lymph nodes? Anyway.. if you can.. you may just have a slight infection.. go to your doc and get some antibiotics.
Lymph nodes get swollen with infections, abscesses and cancer.

Yes, there are lymph nodes in your armpits. Sometimes during your period, they just get swollen. My mom said it's just because of hormones. Although, if you're sick, they can also get swollen and sore. Also, if you are sensitive to any kind of ingredient in certain deoderents, that may also be the problem. Ask your doctor if this is a continuous problem or if it worries you.

There are lymph nodes in your armpits. Maybe try using a more gentle deodorant during your time of the month.

Same with me, every month, they swell like your breasts swell, usually the week before the period, almost to the point that you cant touch them they hurt so bad, as soon as the period came it went down. by the way stress also causes both areas to become swollen & sore.
