In engineering, there is a tolerance on about every quantity. So, we practice to approximate perfection at an acceptable tolerance.

For example, I quantify my perfection by keeping track of the number of mistakes I make in my life compared to the number of successes. Each year, I perform a complicated statistical analysis on the data I collect and determine methods to improve my perfection to within a tolerance that I deem acceptable.

People may not be perfect per se, but if they practice an art, action, or whatever, their performance may be. Hence the term, "Practice makes perfect".

True, we can never attain perfection - but the fact that we try, thereby making us a better person in what we do, say etc., is why we keep trying. You know you'll never be the best everything, but you may as well try to be good at something - at least better than you were before. Hope you get me.
