The Tomb of the Unknown soldier, which glad to say is not unknown anymore. Is guarded by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The Unit is Echo, 3rd INF. They are some of the sharpest soldiers in the world. I think that I would have liked to have tried, but sadly I am too short, only 5'9", I think you have to be 6" to apply. They even have a special badge they wear for being assigned to the duty. As for those that said Marines, sorry but the Marines do not get that honor, they do however get to guard the White House and the President.

The Army national guard guards the tomb of the unknown soldier.
They are very dedicated. They go through a grilling school. They also take a vowel of silence for 1 year, and after their term is up they have to follow the code to their death. Things like to swearing, drinking. if they get caught, they get the badge removed from the scrolls. Every day they spend 5 hours putting together their uniforms.
Their was a hurricane coming in to the area a few years back, and for the first time in history they told the soldiers to stand down, it is to dangerous, The soldiers reply was on instinct, they never flinched, ans we are here to guard the tomb, we will die doing it. So in a hurricane they stood guard and lived, did not miss a beat on the 21 steps back and forth.
Those men are very serious, Nothing will keep them from doing their job.

The United States Army guards the Tomb. The unit that does it is similar to the Marine Barracks at 8th & I, primarily ceremonial, but they are fully comabt trained. All of the services have these units in Washington, D.C., and they all serve their own purposes.

It is the Army Old Guard.....
I had a friend that was in the Old Guard. It is a really respectable career to get into. He ended up by screwing it up. He decided he wanted to rob some houses and steal a couple cars one night then ended up in Leavenworth Military Prison.
