Yes. And it's a crime too. It's considered murder.

I don't believe in Hell, and sin isn't a word I use, as it involves conforming to often random and unexamined religious dogma. Looking at suicide from a moral, rather than a religious point of view, I would instead ask, "Is it moral to kill yourself?" I'd have to answer that it can be, depending upon the circumstances. Some consider it honorable and a personal right.

As far as we know, this one life we're living is the only one we're ever going to have, so it should not be treated carelessly or tossed away lightly.

Under the right circumstances, such as suffering a chronically painful illness or injury, I would consider it proper for me to take my own life, if I believed there was no hope of regaining an acceptable quality of life. But this is a choice I would not have anyone force on me or deny me, and I would not want to force someone else to do something against their conscience. It's a very personal choice.

Well you have to first determine your definition of a sin. Because if your thinking about doing this you only have yourself to answer to, not any so called god. If there was an all powerful being it would stop people thinking about such things.
More importantly, to do that would be stupid, because no matter what is happening in your life right now, believe me someone has got it worse and are not even close to thinking about killing themselves.
Get over it, move on, and have fun with your life. This, as they say, is not a rehearsal, you wont get a second chance!!!

"Sin" is a very religion-specific word, so it will depend on your religion or beliefs. If you killed yourself, you probably won't go to hell because you need to be alive to be in hell. I'm speaking of course, in the general meaning of "hell", not religion-specific.

I'm not going to start assuming that you're suicidal, but I've been down that road and I can tell you now that I am glad my attempts failed.

I couldn't help but notice your user name. Living in this world can be really difficult with all of the problems. But there really is hope. I am going to provide you with a link that I hope you will read. Also if you go to search and type in suicide, there are at least 10 articles on the subject, so if these don't give you some answers that you need, maybe one of them will.

Now to answer your question, Life is a gift from God, he considers it precious. He also condemned murder and suicide is "self-murder" so he would not approve. However, remember, he is also one who reads the heart. He knows our makeup and that we are just dust. He is the judge.

Sin means offense, crime, wrongdoing. And hell means misery, torment, agony, anguish.

So, if you succeed in killing yourself, yes you technically have committed an offense but on the flip side your not in hell. If you are dead the misery is over.

p.s. There is no really heaven or hell.

Of course its a sin, whether you go to heaven or hell for doing so is the question. A question that Christians have dealt with for sometime. The bible doesn't speak specifically about this. I would think if one had a good relationship with God, why would they want to take their life. A life that they didn't give themselves. Of course if you aren't saved and Jesus is Lord of your life, then of course you're not going to heaven, but if you have given your life to Christ, I find it hard you would want to do so. Christians learn that nothing is too hard for God, so whatever is causing them to have suicidal thoughts can be taken away by God.

Someone may bring up Judas, who hung himself, but Judas wasn't committed to Jesus, even though he was a disciple. The bible says that every one who says, "Lord, Lord" will not enter into the kingdom of God.

Well, I once thought it was. Now I think...it is only if you think it is. Are you religious? I will give you my religious answer: I think God understands that we are lost. If someone kills themselves, I don't think he sends them to hell unless he knows they did it with hatred or to spite someone. If they did it because of depression, or they felt they had no way out....I think it is case by case. If you knowingly kill yourself to save someone else...I definately don't think you would go to hell. So there is no standard answer.

PS...(added later) Speaking of religion....would it be a Christianly thing to not try to save someone if you had a chance to? And what if you knew the outcome was death for you?

The Bible doesn't say much about suicide. But it does say in the ten commandments, thou shalt not kill, so I take that to mean kill yourself too. This is just my opinion. In The New Testament, when Judas killed himself, it says Judas went to his own place, which I take to mean hell.

If you believe at the time you are commiting suicide that it is a sin and you will go to 'hell'...then this is the reality that you will create for yourself. But, I doubt if you'd believe me...
