I lived in Sicily for 2 years and found Sicilians and Italians to be great.
I took my bicycle from Sigonella to Caltagirone, stopped in a bike shop and was having a slightly more than difficult time expressing myself in Italian/Sicilian and the shop owner called a woman in off the street to help interpret. I was able to tell the woman... who was old enough to by my Mom... that I rode from Sigonella. I didn't understand everything she said, but what I could understand was that she wanted to take me home to feed me.... that she couldn't imagine that I didn't NEED to eat. How cool is that?
They "all" believe they are Mario Andretti, turning 2 lane country roads into 4 lane expressways (you real Italians know what I mean). Everyone thinks they have to be first when they are behind the wheel.
I think its cool that people get offended when you jump straight into business without the required pleasantries. At least "Good morning/afternoon/evening" then "how are you, how is your family"?
There is little you can't get away with as far as the Polizia or Caribinieri is concerned with a nice set of boobs and a short skirt.

It wouldn't be fair to have one opinion about all Italian people (or about any national group as a whole). I don't think the same about Berlusconi than I think about his victims. And I don't buy stereotypes, if that's what I mean.
