Well, the United States consumer average credit score is 678. However, in some states any credit score over 650 is good, but credit bureau reports would state that you have a fair credit score but it still would be difficult to get the best interest rates and the best credit card options.
There is good news though, if you are planning to buy a house you would be able to get one with little to no money down since you only need a credit score of 550 to qualify for those kind of loans. You would also be able to qualify for decent auto loans as well. You would be able to get credit cards with small credit lines but you wouldn't have to pay a deposit on the card like you would if you had a poor credit score or no credit at all.
The credit score is ultimately used by creditors to decide if you are a high risk borrower/consumer before extending you any type of credit and it is used to determine what you will pay in interest (interest rates will be higher if your score is lower). Anything over 700 is a good score. Anything over 800 is excellent.
There are three credit bureaus and most likely you have three different credit scores. The equifax score is usually the lowest since alot of your credit information (100%) is being reported to them (even though it is also the most inaccurate as well). the other two bureaus which are Transunion and Experian may not have a full credit history and your score is based on what your creditors have reported to them.
I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to purchase but I hope this helps a little bit.

Yes, 618 is a "decent" score but may not give you access to some loan programs. Lending is a "risk based" business. The higher your score, the more you have access to. The good news is that your score will continue to climb every month as long as you make your payments in a timely manner and limit your new credit opportunities.
Many mortgage lending programs floor the access at 680.

618 is not good. You need to work on improving it. Get a copy of all three agency reports and dispute items that may be incorrect. Pay off your debts and use credit to your advantage by paying it on time every month. This will raise your score.

A credit score is a tool used in the lending market. You can do two things; improve your score thus improving your future options or mess up your credit score and lose opportunities.
First off, review your credit cards. You only need one Visa/Mastercard. Period. Your credit limit on each of your credit cards works against you as "potential debt". So pay off, close, and get in writing, all closed account information. If you can't close them all quickly, because they have outstanding balances, do one at a time. Most companies are going to need you to put your requests in writing, keep copies of everything, and don't expect things to happen fast.
You do not control what bad things are listed on your credit report. But you can insure that the good financial things are on there - did you pay off a car? paying a student loan, all info correct?
It is your financial situtation, take control.

618 is on the lower end. Every creditor looks at different things... when considering credit for an individual.

618 not really.
You really want your score to be over 700. To boost your score pay off your debts quickly. And take out new loans and pay them off quickly.
There is no quick fix.
