You should drink as much of your daily amount as just plain water as possible. You may include other drinks if you drink a bit more to combat any sugar or caffeine in them.

Alcohol is a poison, it has the effect it does (ie: drunkenness) because it dehydrates you. If you do drink any beer or similar then you should drink twice as much water to combat it's effects (ie: if you have a pint of beer then you should have an EXTRA two pints of water on top of your usual daily intake or you will not be healthy at all!). Hope this proves useful!

No.
Beer
Tea
Coffee
Soft drinks
Juice
are not included as they all require your body to use its stored water to help in the digestion process.

The lucky thing is you can get part of that 2 litres of water from water rich foods. If you have heard of Anthony Robbins, then the water rich diet he offers really does work.

Try going to your local library and borrowing his book;

Anthony Robbins: Unlimited Power.

Tea and coffee have caffeine in which is a diuretic which makes you wee out more than you take in and beer has alcohol in which is dehydrating so I guess you should take account for these things in your 2 litres a day rule!

apparently not - but then I have never drunk 2 litres of water (in it's 'pure' state) in a single day so I'm not sure how I have survived for 42 years!!!! Interestingly, in many hot counries, you'll get a glass of water with a coffee to counteract the dehydration caused. Must go now - have to peel my tongue from the roof of my mouth!!!!!

All the drinks you mention, including squashes containing artificial sweeteners are considered a Diuretic. That is to say that they dehydrate you more than they put fluid in.
Stick to water but if you must flavour it do so with as little flavouring as you can.

Great question!

Apparently I have been kidding myself - cos I drink gallons of tea!

If I am supposed to drink an extra glass of water for every cuppa I have PLUS 2 litres of water..........there is likely to be a terrible drought; possibly worldwide!!!

tea and coffee usually contain caffeine which is a diruetic (alot of sodas contain caffeine)...that means it makes you pee more without retaining the benefits of water...you should drink an additional cup of water for every cup of tea of coffee or soda that you consume...however, if you drink decaf tea or coffee, they count as part of you daily water intake.

beer contains alcohol and alcohol is known to dehydrate you (ever wake up after a nite of drinking and youre DYING of thirst??)...so if youre drinking beer, you also need to drink extra water.

i dont know what squash is.

You don't need to drink 8 glasses (2 litres) of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. That's just an old wives' tale that has NEVER been supported scientifically. An urban myth!!
Drink when you're thirsty. Period!

No, only water and pure fruit juice, diluted half and half with water. Some people say you should have an extra glass for every cup of coffee or alcohol unit as caffeine and alcohol both dehydrate you.

It is included, but if you drink 8 ounces of t or beer, don't count that as 8 ounces of water. Only the pure water should be counted.
