I assume it expired while you were away. That is unusual, because any travel companies, be they airlines, ships, etc. require you to have a passport which is valid for at least six months going forward. If it has expired, you may have difficulty at Immigration. Best bet is to go to the American Embassy or Consulate in whatever country you are in. You should be able to get a new passport in less than 72 hours.

No. You cannot travel out of back into the country with an expired passport.
Always make sure that you have an updated passport before you leave the country so it won't expiry while you are away. It will save you a lot of trouble and money.

You will be MUCH safer renewing your passport while you are in Asia. Most airlines will not allow you to buy/board with a passport expiration date of less than 6 months. Should you slip by that process and arrive in the U.S. with an expired passport you could find yourself on a plane back to Asia.

No. Getting a new passport isn't so hard. I had my backpack stolen in Sydney and had to get a new passport. I always keep a copy of my passport, so it only took 36 hours to get a new one. But it costs...it was over $125 australian dollars, including new passport photo. I
f you don't have a valid passport, you won't be able to leave wherever you are, let alone get into the US.

NO!! Who in their right mind would want to?? You may be able to get out of the country with an expired passport but, with everything happening in the world today, you would be taking a HUGE chance on not getting back in!! Go to the U.S. Embassy in Asia. They can help.
