My Pommerainian just came out of her first heat last week. I have a Basset Hound also, I dont beleive that they "got together" but Im not sure. Her heat seemed really short, maybe a week or two long.

Why would you have left them together? How stupid. Dogs bleed for the first 10 to 11 days of a heat cycle. The blood then goes away but the heat is not over for about another 10 to 12 days. This is the time when I dog can get bred.

Get her spayed and neuter the bassett too. Poor dogs.

First thing: In the future, seperate the dogs if you arent going to get them spayed and neutered.
Second: How far along would she be if she was? How long ago did this happen? She may be pregnant and it may be too early to really tell. My dogs when pregnant become more hungry and seem like they can never get full. Almost like a woman feels when pregnant. I have also noticed that the dog seems more peaceful and has a different facial expression. She may lay down more for rest if she is. Nipples usually dont become larger until later on in the pregnancy. And some dogs dont show being pregnant until a week or so before they give birth. Thats how my females are.

***Take her to the vet in a week or so (that way if she is pregnant they will be able to tell) and have them feel around her stomach area. My vet can usually tell me if the dog is pregnant and give me an estimate on how many pups there are. If you wish to know exact amount, ask for an ultrasound or xray to be done. If she is pregnant, be willing to be there when she delivers the puppies incase she needs help. My goldens have needed me and my mother there everytime to deliver them and clean them off cause the mother cant always reach down there to do so when they are big in the stomach. Good Luck.

Wow...another loser. Why would you have two dogs of different sexes that are both intact and let them hang out together when she is in heat????????????????????????? And her FIRST heat at that!!!
Do the entire world a favor and spay the dog, neuter the other one, and do not try to breed.
Do you think maybe a PomXBassett may be a poor mix??????
She would probably need a c-section for that.

Take her to the vet to find out.

And if she isn't, have the vet spay her so you never have to wonder again.

And neuter the bassett, too.

if she's getting fat or fatter fast then she's probably pregnant. you might want to take her to the vet to see if she is for sure or not.
