No, their instinct tells them to sleep when the sun goes down and wake up at the crack of dawn. It's just best to leave them in the dark. If you want you can leave a dim light on but I wouldn't put a very bright one on. They don't really need any lights though, they aren't scared of the dark, it's best to let them follow their instincts.

How many lovebirds? If you are just talking a pair, a night light is not necessary unless there is a lot of action where they are caged. Sudden loud noises will still frighten them, but with a night light they are able to see that harm is not coming to them. Many books suggest covering their cage at night, but there are pros and cons to that as I have found out. In the summer, additional heat builds up under the covering, in the winter, a covering does not allow heat to circulate. I do not cover my lovebirds. Their cage is backed up to a wall and has been. On the sides at night I simply drape material on both sides so they feel secure at night, yet are able to see through the front of the cage should they be frightened. This way a night light is not necessary, however, how would you like it if you heard something and had to struggle to see if something was out there? See what I mean? It really does not cost much to provide them with a very small watt night light to make them feel better.

I have two lovebirds, and at about 7:30 they begin 'screaming' until the lights are out. They are happy and content once most of the lights are out, I always leave on a dim one for them, just in case they become frightened.

No, of course not because thay do not need light to sleep. They have great eyes at night. They are comfortable without any light that will shine on them as they sleep.

not really, but if the days are short then you should provide them light for the extra 2 to 3 hours.

if this is a serious question then no,,,,all birds need light during the day and darkness at nite. just like outside birds..they sleep when it gets dark,if you cover them during the day..they will not eat or move around,,they'll think its time to sleep.....
