There is nothing wrong for putting a real picture on the web as long as you don't give vital info about yourself, such as where you live, phone #, SS #, things of this nature. This is my real picture. It does not tell anyone where I live or anything about me.
Besides I met my husband on the internet, and we have been married 7 years and the best thing to ever happen to me. I understand not all people are as lucky as I was. Then again I don't believe it was luck. I believe God sent him to me.

Some are fakes some aren't...the only way to know is to view a web cam or meet in person. I've never participated on dating sites but have met a few people in real life that I first met online. There are certainly a lot of reasons to be cautious about online dating...a lot of weirdos out there. One of the guys I met online then met on campus (always meet in public during the day) ended up being a little too clingy (we only went on one date..if you could even call it that) and kept calling me. It was almost stalker-like...he didn't stop till a few months later when I had two of my guy friends talk to him.

But, simply having a picture isn't too dangerous as long as too much contact information isn't disclosed. For instance, I try not to have my last name anywhere online that is easily connected to my picture and won't say where I live in a town.

Issues with online security do concern me a bit. For instance, I'm an atheist and webmaster of an atheist forum. Finding out the owner of a website isn't that difficult and some people really get upset when they come across an atheist site. Even though I try to run a forum that is friendly and tolerant...I am concerned that some crazy religious person might get upset and try to find my location. You could call it paranoia, I guess,...but there are a lot of crazy fundamentalists out there who really hate atheists (thinking we are devil worshipers and whatever other false ideas they may have). It's really just a small concern and not something I ever expect to be a problem. I'm not exactly a closeted atheist either...just would rather that info not be available for crazy people to find in connection to where I live.

I know alot of these pictures are fake
BUT think of it this way...
you walk around in real life - you go to bars or whereever in real life -anyone you meet is a potential risk. The key is NOT TO BE DESPIRATE - men who are problems search for despirtate women - obviously posting on a dating site may mean a women is despirately lonely and there fore an easier target - women with kids should NEVER mention they have kids on these sites as this is number 1 way pedophiles or guys who take pics of naked kids can find targets

The concept of a dating service is okay. However, safety concerns over rule for me. Today most people work all the time , and that makes it hard to meet people of like mind. Many large churches have "single again" groups where people can meet in a safe church environment. I think its a good thing.

People should be careful and only sign up with protected sites that do not allow viewing of profiles by annoymous individuals. Or do no post pictures at all.

according to the pictures they post on internet dating sites; some of the pictures are fakes, and some of them are not.

i think you have to be really desperate to meet someone if youve decided to try to do it the online way rather than meeting people in person. ofcourse, theres a risk in both...you never know who will be a total creep, but at least with people people in person, you know their actual appearance....i would assume that most people post fake pictures online (to be safe and protect their identities) but i guess some people dont realize the dangers of online people.

personally, id rather be single for ever and alive than try to meet someone online and find out their some crazy murderer.

you can get your self in trouble many ways, it's dangerous because you have predators out there, but knowing the risk, if you choose to do so anyway, then it's on them.....and yes some of the pictures can be fake.....is internet dating okay, yes

alot of these pictures could be fake, How would anyone know the truth? NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, can be VERIFIED here. If you look at news specials, they show old men all the time who get caught for posing as teen BOYS AND GIRLS..and who also have PRIOR CRIMINAL RECORD FOR CHILD ABUSE. it's sad but true.
