because opening their mouths stretches the face and enables the woman to keep her eyes open without using her fingers, thus freeing up her hands to hold the mascara bottle in one hand and the wand in the other. There you go!

We can. Most girls don't because it helps them to keep their face steady. If their face isn't moving, then it is harder to mess up the makeup.
Also, it streches the skin to make it easier to keep the eyes opened, but that is used more for eyeliner. Most girls "blink" mascara on.
