As the web links on other answers point out, bio-diesel is a good outlet for waste cooking oil products but using essentially a foodsource as a fuel is a dangerous track to follow. Market economics do not take into consideration our global need to feed people - including the significant proportion of the planet who are economically dis-empowered.
Indeed, market economics are driving the growth of palm-oil production to devastating effect by depletion of vast areas of virgin forests. (Palm oil is also a pretty good base for bio diesel!) So although the principle of bio diesel it is a potentially sustainable fuel, we are using all fuels including any potentially sustainable fuels at an un-sustainable rate. it isn't sustainability of the fuel that will be the issue, it is the sustainability of our use of it.

If you mean that stuff thats made out of chip oil, I live on the Isle |Of Man, and one of the local farmers has made a plant on his farm, and he is selling loads of it! so it can,t be that bad, it,taken off like a house on fire, he's just a tad surprised himself, don't think he can keep up withy the demand, got to be a good idea anyway if only for environmental purposes!

Read about a couple in Scotland coverting chip fat into fuel. The blood charlatans were only undercharging by 10p compared to usual price!
