When Bailley gave birth, I noticed that her teats were swollen. She constantly wanted to make a "nest." She definately was not interested in playing. If you keep your dog outside, she might try to dig a burrow. Bailley dug one once her puppies were about 4 weeks old. She kept her puppies there, would not let anyone move them.
Here is a part of an article I looked up for you:
"There are three stages of labor. The first stage, which will probably go by undetected, occurs when the cervix is dilating and there are some uterine contractions. You may notice some shivering, restlessness, panting, vomiting, and unwillingness to eat, and the dog may seek out a private place. If you do notice this stage (which lasts six to 12 hours), encourage your pet to go to the whelping area."
If you haven't started yet, I would mix some puppy food into your dog's regular food. She needs the extra nutrition. I would keep her on the puppy food mixture until after she is done nursing her puppies (about 5-8 weeks after they are born).
Keep an eye on mom when she gives birth. Don't try to interfer with her birthing process. If you notice she is having a difficult time, call the vet for assistance.
For more information, please visit: http://www.pets.ca/articles/article-dogpregnant.htm
In six weeks, I get to find out if I am in the same boat you are in. Bailley might be pregnant for the second time (she had an unexpected visitor).
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I don't like when people bad mouth a whole Breed. I have a Chi/jack russel mix and she has always been great with my children. We got her as a puppy and my son was just over a year old at the time. Had one more baby. She has been completely loving to all of my kids she will be 8 this year. She has been a wonderful addition to our family couldn't imagine being without her. Rather someone else considers her a mutt or not we consider her FAMILY! And actually I got her cheaper then any pet store would have tried to charge. And I agree with the statement that the dog chooses you, she totally chose me!! ❤

thing you should have all ready:
1 whelping box = where mum gives birth,
2 vets number = in case of any problems.
3 heat lamp = to keep the pups warm
weighing scails = to make sure the pups put weight on propley.
4 bottles and milk formula = just in case mum cant or wont feed all the pups.
5 list of birth defects to look for = cleth palet etc
sings of whelping.
1 will try to build a nest
2 start to produce milk
3 pant more and will be restless
4 may refuse food
5 small adomanal contraction
bitrh
1 never leave more than an hour between pups, if its been and hour after one pup is out and she is still pushing call a vet as it may be breached.
3 make sure she expells one after birth per pup as if one is left in it will cause an infection and death if not treated.
4 check pups for any birth defects, cleth palet.(hole in roof or mouth), hair lip, hydrocefiles. a vet can give you a llist.
5 mum should chew the umbilical cord,(make sure she dont do it too low) if not you must do it. (ask vet on how to do it right)
care of mum and young
1 new born puppies are unable to regulate there body temp so keep the room warm.
2 very young pups cant go to the loo by them selves so the mum will lick there privat parts, but if she refuses the pups you will have to whipe them to do this.
3 if she wont or cant give them enough milk mix up puppie formula milk and feed evey couple of hours (if she rejects them) or top them up at feeding time.
4 at about 5/6 weeks start interducing soft moist food and slowly ween thim on to solids. (once they can eat food take them away from the mum)
5 at 8 weeks they should be ready to go to new homes.
good luck. (and maby you should consider geting her spayed if it was an accidental mating)

A pregnancy lasts 63 to 70 days with dogs .So by my calculations you have any where from 4 to 11 days .First of if you haven't made a place for her to have her pups yet you need to do that now! Otherwise she could have them any where including your bed... So find an area prefurably a welping box but a large box at lest 3X's the size of your dog lying down ,Make sure the sides aren't to high she needs to be able to just step right in and out with ease. Line area with news papers so she can begin shredding the papers ,making it comfterble, and getting used to the area. Make sure there is no draft in this area ,a draft can kill new born pups.Take a thermomater and check her temp 2to 3 times a day rectaly.A dogs normal temp is 100 to 102 when the temp. drops to below 100 expect labor with in 24 hours. If not within 24 hours call vet. When cotractions begin it should not be more than 2 hours befor the first pup is born. When the pup is born if mom does not clean of sack or start licking it within a few sec . You can take over and remove sack, rub pup vigorisly but gently with a clean towel to stimulate pupys breathing. Tye plain dental floss around umbilical cord 1 inch from pups tummy then cut the otherside. Plecenta should follow 5 to 15 min after birth. After every birth their should be a waiting period of no more than 4 hours if it is longer call vet. A little tip: If posible do not allow mom to eat placenta remove and keep track that their is the same number pups as placenta's. After pups are born and clean and mom is comfterble clean up and remove news papers and replace with sheets, blankets or towels for easy footing. Check all pups to make sure they do not have a split in the roofs of thier mouths and make sure their anus is normal and open. Watch for puffyness under their eyes .If any of these are abnormal call vet. For the first week keep temp in area 87to 90 degrees . A heating pad my be use but always keep on low and only in one corner of box so pups can move away if they get to warm. Temp. should slowly be lowered after 1st week . If any thing seems odd or just not right do not hesitate to call vet. If you have any Questions don't hesitate to e-mail me or just call vet.

you should have started taking her temp about a week ago. about 14-48 hrs before dogs go into labor their temp drops about1-3 degrees. she will start making a nest some dogs will put a bunch of food in their mouths and bring it where they are going to have the puppies. they will do it with their toys also. she will look restless. I hope you put her on puppy food. if not put her on puppy food now and don't take her off till about 1 week after she stops feeding puppies. it will look lilke she is going to poo. when she looks like she is going to poo she will start having them soon. if she don't push a puppy out within 1-2 hr call your vet. you need to call your vet anyway to keep him informed. you should be ready to break the sac of the newborn incase the mother dog don't do it. you need to know the centripical force method in making the puppies breath in case the mother don't break the sac. in most cases the mother will do it on her own but not always. when she goes into labor don't crowd her. go into another room but still peak in on her so you can check these things. you should have read up on this the time you found out she was pregnant. I suggest go to the library and check you out a book so you will be better informed.
the one above me is a good answer but they didn't tell you the centripical force method. after you break the sac then you need to firmly place the puppy between both of you hands hold your hands and throw them down with force(keeping the puppy in your hands) between your legs. this helps remove fluid in the nasal passages and lungs. do this a couple of times. this is only nescesary if the mother don't break the sac.
after the dog has had the puppies take her to the vet along with the puppies so she and the puppies can be checked. the mother dog will recieve a shot to. the shot helps clean her out. this is important to make sure she has had all the pups and to see if the puppies are alright.

She will start trying to make a nest. She will be restless and maybe circle. She may go off to find a spot that is dark and quiet. Some have gotten on top of the bed to have them. Make her a bed (in a box or in a corner) Have her sleep in it. Put in soft warm cloth. Then let her alone and just watch her. When you see her breathing hard and being restless and maybe whinning some, know her time is near. As for taking care of her and babies-make sure she has lots of water and food. Good food. She will take care of the babies. Good luck

Have you ever been prego? I have! you pee A LOT! Signs of labor are restlessness and nesting. Be prepared for 6 weeks of Hell! Puppies are a lot of work. Get a box large enough for her to get into and have plenty of room, or a small child's swimming pool works great, and it will not absorb the fluids...lots of towels, and a heating pad...let mom do all the work, unless she does not remove the sack from the pups face...let her eat the afterbirth, let the puppies nurse...the heating pad is to keep the puppies warm, so keep it close to mom...have your vet on stand by in case of an emergency...puppies can be born as close as every 30 mins, to as far apart as 1-2 hrs...don't let her push for 2 hrs without a puppy being born...call your friends and see if any of them has ever whelped a litter of puppies....
AND FOR GODS SAKE, GET HER FIXED AFTER THE PUPPIES ARE WEANED!
WE HAVE ENOUGH DOGS/PUPPIES IN THIS WORLD THAT NEED HOMES!

When her belly falls from the sides to the bottom, she's due any day.
If she hasn't already, she'll find a spot for them to be born in and before she has them, she'll lay in that spot and not move for much of anything!

Do you have a whelping box ready? Do you have a change of bedding for the whelping box after birth? Are you feeding her a decent puppy food? Maybe any prenatal vitamins?? Or uh DUH ASK HER VET?? Have you not had her to a vet through out the pregnancy?? Jeez your children should be so lucky
Should have spayed. You deserve to get your house pissed in. Wait till she stops nursing and you have to clean puppy poo.
