It is nice to see a question on Gandhiji. I was actually working on this subject. I am trying to reply or to write on a lot of the work of Gandhiji as I feel it is totally misunderstood or misread.
Let me say something about India here. Gandhiji was trying to save the hindus from the terrorism that prevailed just a few years ago. Britain was ruling and milking the country dry. Muslims were oppressing. You can see his pain in a lot of the work written by him but the journey he was on was to give India independence from the oppressive and taxing British rule. Actually the Indians were very badly treated especially during the British Raj.
So when he said the statement, it was to keep peace in India. If you look at India carefully, you will see that India has been oppressed for a very long time and to survive, India had to take the correct steps towards independence.
When Gandhiji said he is all those relgions, he must have been trying to say somethng else altogether. India had hindus muslims christians and jews at the time. And Gandhiji wanted independence for the country. If he would have started religious discord, the battle for independence would have gone down the drain and the British would have said "WE TOLD YOU SO".
There is a book I have read. It is called The Great Hedge of India. In this book, some details are put forth as to the amount of money the British made just out of one tax on indians.
No one can be all four religions. It is not possible. But Gandhiji was a very cautious and wise man. He knew what would happen with the muslims if he declared he was just a hindu and India a hindu country. The muslims would have slaughered the hindus and today India would be an islamic state.
It is only in this present day that the world has realised the mistakes made and are learning the violent nature and actions of the muslims.
At that time, the British did not wish to lose the chicken or whatever bird that laid the golden egg. In my opinion, the nations of United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australia thrive because of India and the taxes imposed on her.
And if you go through all of Gandhiji's wriitings you will realise what caution he used in his actions, to achieve the independence for his country.
And yet today, there are people in India who still blame Gandhiji for turning india into what she is. I blame the muslims and the british, I blame the whole world, but there are some hindus who still feel he was totally wrong and blame Gandhiji.
They say he should have declared India as a hindu country at the time of independence. My research tells me otherwise. If he would have, the muslims would have finished the hindus and today India would have become an islamic state.
The time is right now. If only we could get our country back and restore hinduism and bring our children back on the right track.
That needs a lot of sacrifice and passive resistance. We do not believe in violence. And when India has been deprived of a decent living for so long, how does one walk on such a devoted and strict path?

If he died then yes, he is there, but so are all people who have died, for hell is only another word for grave. It is not a horrible place. Hell is temporary, for Jesus is going to resurrect those who are in hell. Revelation tells us that Jesus has the keys to hell, meaning he will open the graves of those who have fallen asleep in death to be reunited with their families and loved ones. [ Revelation 1:18 ]
Revelation 20:13,14 tells us also__" And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
We can see here that hell delivers up its dead and then they are judged. Hell and death are then destroyed forever. This will be a wonderful time--no more death and no more graves. It brings us closer to the God who gave us life if we know that he does not torture anyway. If someone burned or tortured someone close to you for a long time, how would you feel about that person? Would you respect them or want to be close to them? Satan loves it when the churches of Christendom make God out to be so terrible and sadistic. When the Bible tells us that God is love, that is what it means.
So Ghandi is still sleeping in death, awaiting a resurrection back to life here on earth.

you interpreted Gandhi's remark very superficially.
Gandhi is the epitome of so much more. he meant it spiritually btw, besides it probably being a political remark too.
you obviously dont realise that religion as YOU know it is very human, in that sense with all the mistakes, mindsets, social purpose.
"religion" can be seperated in 2 cores, physical and spiritual. the spiritual frame of mind is what you seek to achieve. the physical is how you behave (governed by these written social rules) and whatever you live by that make you think you are christian/jew/muslim/hindu. -duh-
i dont believe in religion, but i believe in spirituality.
if there's a hell (created by your belief in it), i hope you enjoy your trip down. how lame can you get. let me guess you are 280years old and effectively multilingual and affluent enough to have access to so many religious scriptures.

if gandhi is in hell, i'd rather go there with him all my non-bible thumping friends, who are "good" people. but since there is no such thing as hell and there never was and never will be, any sane person that can make a decision without referring to a 2000 year old mistranslated book knows that gandhi was a highly evolved being and is still evolving upward forever

Ghandi was many things, mainly he was a Spiritual so regardless of his belief(s) he's not in Hell. In fact to some extent he delivered his people from the Hell of being under the thumb of the British. PEACE!
