Well- the overwhelming acronym has several meanings to our pop culture however, the most popular being "Thank God It's Friday". Then, of course, there were noises made from the community who does not believe in God and it was changed to "Thank Goodness It's Friday" (also those religious folks who did not want to appear to use the Lord's name in vain appreciated the change as well...) BUT for me -my own version would be 'THANK GOD I'M FORGIVEN'. I think I like that version. Honestly, the business/working community came up with this idea (England, I think) that after a hard week of work, the idea being grateful for Friday - which meant that business and working folks would get together at the "pubs" for beer, fish and chips. This carried over to other cultures and even the idea of popular dining places naming their restaurants (TGIF) hit the market with a bang!
