Some never will. Some will start going to the door you want them to go out.
You can try putting a bell by the door. Everytime you take him out, ring the bell and say "outside" or whatever command you give him for going potty outdoors. Eventually (it will take awhile) he will make a connection between the bell ringing and the door opening so when he needs to go he will ring the bell for you to open the door for him.

I don't know why you would ask this question to the people on Yahoo! How should anybody here know. There isn't a specific age, i.e. 6 months, two weeks, three days. If you are silly enough to ask the people here, why don't you ask your dog. Does he have the internet?
Sorry for the sarcasm. I'm just kidding. It's early in the morning, but I'm awake now. I don't think you have much longer to wait. About 6 months old is when puppies realize that they shouldn't do what they do where they live. He'll begin to stand near the door. Just make sure you can see him so that he doesn't have an accident when he trying to let you know that he has to go.

Congrats on training so quickly!
He may be alerting you now, and you may not be picking up on it. You have probably been taking him out when he does certain cues, like sniffing in a spot, circling, barking, whining, sitting and staring at you a "certain" way, or after eating, playing, etc.
Pay special attention to your pup's body language before you take him outside to potty. He is probably giving you subtle warning, and that "look" or "sign" can be his way of asking to go potty. Beware that sometimes they can learn to ask to go potty but they really just want to go out to play. It's best to play mostly inside until they are trained, except for scheduled daily walks, so they remember that the lawn is a toilet and not a playground.
Once you learn your pup's cues, you can train them new ones. When you notice him having to go, have him sit and stay by the door while you attach the leash. After a while he will associate sitting by the door with the relief of going potty outside, and that can be your "alert". Hope this helps!

My Tzu only goes to the door in an emergency like diarrhea(and for that I am grateful) The rest of the time she just sits or stands in front of you staring at you like she has telepathy. Apparently she does cause I look at her and ask if she needs to go out and she walks towards the door. Just keep taking your doggie out at same time. 2 weeks is still a short time and you need longer to get to know her habits. Sounds like you are doing fine. And by the way, had my doggie 4 years and she still has accidents. That will never change. m

He will notify you every time he has to go, but you have to train him how to notify you. Our puppy was potty trained within a week. We took him outside any time he went to the door and stayed there until he urinated, then we praised him . He then associated his need to urinate with going to the door. He lets us know every time now.

that could take up to a year. And since we walked our dogs alot. The older one did not learn it until he was about 4. At that point I became ill and his walks became farther between and so he learned to ask.
But he still does not bark. He will either walk to the door then to us. Or he stares, very loud. I really think he is trying to use mind control at that point. I will ask him if he wants to go out and at warp speed he runs to the door.

I'd just like to add that you should learn to read your puppies body language. Some dogs never have a big show when they have to go out but there will be little signs that will clue you in to when he has to go out.

your puppy is still young. some puppies just walk around while they pee.... you need to train your puppy to go straight to potty when he needs to go so that accidents wont happen. train your puppy while he's still young....
