I need the skewers for a family barbecue.

It depends where in Chicago you are.
But look up a local Crate & Barrel or Williams & Sonoma to start. If you want to comparison shop, come out to the Woodfield mall in Schaumburg; you can find some nice deals. Just take Rte 90 west out of the city and get off at the Golf Rd exit (near Ikea).

restaurant supply co? What about bamboo skewers. Soak them in water first so they won't burn too much. Think I have seen these at WallyWorld

Try a restaurant supply store, almost anything needed in large quantity can be purchased through them.
