Just adding details: My hair doesn't smell, or have mold. I'm asking this out of pure curiousity. I had some molded laundry because my husband thought I moved it, I thought he did...and my hair was wet at the time and caused me to wonder about this...strange thing to wonder, I know...but thought I'd ask.

You would have to keep it damp a really long time, and I think your scalp would rot off first.
And why? Goss question.
Well, hell, I guess it can:

You know some people ask really strange questions. But hair could get moldy but it dries on its own, i wont stay wet long enough to actually mold. The only reason your wash stays wet if you leave it is because it is contained with other wet clothes. in a dark place. So theoretically, if you and 15 of your Friends all had wet hair, and sat with your heads together in a dark place like a washing machine for a few days. Your hair would mold.

i think you'd have more of a problem with your scalp first, like it would cause itching causing dandruff. but i dont think it would mold. my hair is more than half way down my back and i pretty much keep it in a bun every day because i work in food services and i put it up right after i wash it. it can stay damp for a good 10-12 hours and i've never had a problem, and i've been doing that almost 7 years. if i do that more than 3 or 4 times a week it will start getting itchy tho (good thing for head & shoulders!)

Great question. How did u even think of it??
1.) Hair doesn't mold. Not even if u keep it wet for very long.
2.) Well, if you really get ur hair damp n wet for sooooo long, your hair wouldn't mold. It's just your scalp. It...........(can't find the correct word) rots??
3.) Purely out of curiosity, is your hair long or short? It makes more difference in the answer. Your scalp rots faster, easier and more horribly.

Only if you wear a wig or hair pieces in which yes. Natural hair no. If your hair seems to have an odor you may have extremely oily hair in which you might want to change shampoo's to one for oily hair. I really like tea tree. There are many that are good. Have your hairdresser recommend one she/he would know your hair better. :-)
