I think it is a clear biblical fact that Christians who have received Christ and been born into the new creation have a new life. That is the reason we can no longer excuse ourselves for wrong behaviour by saying, "Well, after all, I'm only human." It is true we are human yet in the body, in the flesh, and that is why we are tempted. It is true and that is why temptations come, but God has given us an ability to say no to these and to say yes to the power of Christ. Because we have a new life it means we do not need to yield to that temptation. We will not feel powerful---we are never expected to---but we have the power to say no; that is what the new creation is all about.
Therefore, we are expected to live at a different, higher level and this is what the world is waiting to see in us. And we can. I cannot excuse myself by saying, "I'm only human."
God says that He knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust. (Psalms 103:14) but this shouldn’t be used on our side as an excuse for giving in to our self-centered attitudes.

There should be higher expectations for everyone. It's just that Christians (and many other religions) claim to follow a certain set of rules and regulations related to their religion. When they don't, that necessarily goes against their religion. I expect Christians to act like Christians and follow all the rules that Christianity dictates. To say, "I'm only human" is like saying, "sure, I believe in God, most the time."

Yes and no. Christians are accountable to follow their faith to the best of their abilities, but nobody has ever succeeded completely but Christ (1 John 1:8 & Hebrews 4:15). That doesn't mean that a Christian should just blow off their own personal failings. The proper response to one's sins is to repent and try to do better in the future. There are some who get the erroneous idea that because Jesus forgives our sin, that sinning doesn't matter any more. The entire chapter of Romans 6 is devoted to denying this false assumption.

I had a seminary professor who said once, "For some Christians, their faith is like peeing in a pair of dark pants. It gives them a warm feeling, but no one else can tell."

There are definitely higher expectations for Christians. We have guidelines to follow and non christians don't. The Bible (Book of Timothy?)states not to judge non christians for they are not under the law. Only hold christians accountable for their actions for they have publically announced their devotin and new why of life. The biggest cause for atheist and hatred towards christian is the hypocracy. To say one thing and to do another. Everyone not only expects more from a christian but literally waits for them to mess up just to point it out. It's a tough line to walk. Just keep up the good fight and remember it's a marathon not a sprint. Love & peace

Yes there are higher expectation for Christians. Our aim is to be Christlike but we are not perfect as He is. It is not an excuse for bad behaviour but we live in a sinful world anr are born into it. The secular expects Christians to be perfect but as the saying goe "Christians are not perfect just forgiven" Everyday I ask God for forgiveness and he does. If you feel this anwers is not justifiable pick up a Bible and read the book of Romans.

Yes, there are higher expectations. In fact, too high that many think it is impossible. Jesus said: "You must be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect." He also said: "You can do what I have done, even greater." Jesus came as a human being to show that it is possible if we have enough faith. He also emphasized that God is within us. But we keep on denying by saying "I am not worthy, I am only human." This is how we Christians reject the very Christ we say we believe in. It looks like the way Sadduces and Pharisees rejected Moses whom they say they believe in by rejecting the very Savior that Moses wrote about.

Everyone should act in a decent manner regardless of whether they're Christian or not. Having said that, as a Christian, I do hold myself to higher standards, and I do strive for perfection. Being 'only human,' I fail, but when I fail, I accept correction (instead of making excuses) and resolve to do better.

umm well i'm a christian.. Yes there are higher expectations since we are saved and know right from wrong. But we are in no way attempting to be perfect. Because Jesus was the only perfect person to walk this earth. Anyways, Christians should thrive to serve and honour God, but sometimes thy get caught up in the world, and sin, and thei acions are those of a lost person.

yes a Christian is only human and we do make mistakes. People are constantly watching you to see if you slip up, to see if you are any different from them. Having Jesus in your life as a Christian does not mean you will never sin or mess up or be perfect. But it does mean that you will be forgiven and He will be there for you when you do slip up or mess up to help you not fall back into it again.

Contrary to popular beliefs just because a person is a Christian does not mean that they are perfect. No one is perfect in a imperfect world. The only ones that are perfect are God and Jesus.

We all fall short of the glory of God, no matter if you are a Christian or not.

I hope this helps.
