I have hair past my waist, and I've learned the best way to get long hair is to have 1/4 inch trimmed every week or so. This gets rid of split ends, therefore reduces breakage. It took a little over a year to have my hair almost to my waist. I started out with shoulder length.

You also need to use a good shampoo and conditioner. The best line of shampoos are Matrix Biolage. Their products are all natural, and not tested on animals. It costs about $15 a bottle, but it is worth it. Even with my hair being as long as it is, one bottle each of shampoo and conditioner lasts anywhere from 3-5 months. (this is a normal 15oz size. with me washing my hair average of 3 times a week) This product really goes a long way.

It's best not wash your hair but every other day(unless you get really sweaty), because this contributes to breakage also. Your hair needs some of it's natural oils in order to stay healthy.
HOPE THIS HELPS

Vitamins E and K help your hair and nails. get a good conditioner, not Pantene, its one of the worst for you hair, and leave it on your hair for about 15 min with a shower cap on it. hair grows from the root, so if you brush your hair and massage your scalp it stimulates and makes blood flow to that area. mind it hair takes a while to grow, but this will help it grow a lil

get clip in hair extensions or if you can afford to get extensions put in . i do my own extensions, but that is time consuming and difficult, but if you are good at self-glamour, order the hair etc on line and glue it in, or have a friend glue it in. it lasts about 1-1 1/2 months. it was great for me.
