I am a Catholic and I do not try to force my religion on others. I believe that one may share the news but not push or hassle another about it. If one says "no thanks" then you leave them alone. I do not understand why some people seem to be bothered by our faith and actively try to destroy it. Honestly if I can respect their rights to not believe then I should have the equal right to believe what I choose, don't you think?

Shouldn't all Christians, Mulims, Jews, Atheists, all other beliefs, and Agnostics have the same right as to what if anything they choose to believe in?

of course you're right. I let them live and believe what they want - AS LONG as ThEY DON'T GET IN MY FACE about it.
Had some Mormons do that to me yesterday eve. I don't go getting in their face, so why do they? What happened to passing out tracts.

I can only speak from my experiences but I believe that they fall into several categories:

1) Jerks - These are the people on the board who just say anything to be outrageous and want to be a pain to everyone regardless of what they post

2) The Quasi-Atheists - These are the folks who are not 100% "committed" to their atheism and rather than engage in a logical and reasoned debate, they just say. "I'm right and you're wrong because you're stupid...." or "You believed in Santa Claus as a kid, etc, etc, etc

3) The "offended" - These are the ones who are just angry people and they get angry when someone wishes them well in a religious context. They have issues with their lives and "despise" those happy Christians

Personally, when I inform some christinans that I am an atheist and they say "I'll pray for you". I politely say, "I'd rather you not but have a nice day" I am comfortable with who I am and what I believe (or don't believe in this case).

Haven't you already asked this question at least two different ways Debra? A large number of your questions invariably invite comparison between religions or forms of non-belief, from a firm Catholic viewpoint that challenges others to justify themselves, and yet you wonder why you attract hostile responses from non-Catholic Christians, atheists, evolutionists, advocates of condom use or anyone else who you make quite clear in your question you disagree with. It is good to debate and no-one should feel that their belief system is undermined, but you do not seem to realize that most of your questions are implicitly, if not explicitly, adversarial. If you cease from issuing challenges or advocating your own faith defensively you will find that a great number (though of course not all) of those to whom this question is addressed are more than happy for you to practise whatever you want, provided we are left to do the same. As for those who would not wish you to practise what you want, you should hardly concern yourself with them in the first place.

Pax.

I don't mind the people like you who practice what you believe but allow others to do the same - so you aren't for continuing to oppress gay people of their rights as citizens? Because I am not gay, but I don't understand why people do this because it is in a book even though it goes against all common sense. I don't like the pushy "Christians" who get all in my face and want to know what I believe and then tell me I am going to hell for believing in God and liking Jesus but not buying into the hateful beliefs that exist because people misinterpret things. Gee, maybe I should have a tee-shirt made that says, "Jesus loves me the bestest' so we can all be done with it? I don't understand the, "I am holier than thou philosophy," and when Christians try to compete to be "more Christian" than others. Can't we all just live and let live as long as others are not oppressing one another?

Well Miss Deb-
I usually do not agree with Catholics-but you are correct my dear. Maybe those who are bothered at some of us having and practicing belief in God are just jealous that they have no God in their life. You are right too about leaving folks alone. As Christians, we are commanded to share the gospel. But Jesus gave the example that if they refuse to listen-or do not want to hear-leave them. I was in a Baptist church for 15 years. Baptists are probably the worst about 'shoving it down your throat'. How well I know this. I have mellowed.
Anyway-I agree.

I think it comes down to the fact that most of us want to be right, especially on something so important. Whether it is the difference between denominations or religions or the overall question, "Is there a God?" the truth has tremendous consequences.

There is no religion that bothers me. As long as it's private. religion belongs at home, churches and other religious buildings.

It doesn't belong in politics, educational systems or public buildings.

This is actually more harsh then i practice it myself. I couldn't care less who prayes where or when. I couldn't care less who practises a religion where and when. But in general it should stay far from politics or educational systems.

You are right people should respect each others beliefs and not try to make someone feel bad because of their religious beliefs.

Remember, sister, we are the children of God. Those who are unsaved remain the children of the prince of this world (Satan). We are persecuted, killed, harassed and vilified because the prince of this world knows his time is short.

Jesus warned us this would happen. Stand strong for Him and keep your faith. When you are insulted, remember this: you're a child of the King! The battle has already been won!
