Well sometimes people tell you silly old stuff about having a baby. I am on my second baby right now she is due in a few weeks. But with my first they told me so much. If you are not washing it because the baby is used to a mothers smell. Your smell will not go away for the baby. All 9 months you have showered and washed your hair. So the baby is used to that. You dont want your hair to stink. So it is safe to wash any and every part of your body!

If you worded it wrong because you are tired like any new mom. And you were really asking about the baby, I recommend that you use warm water with a wash cloth put a tiny bit of shampoo on there and rub it over the babies head and then rinse it off when you are done. Make sure you get the shampoo all off or you could give the baby craddle cap.

Seriously you should have washed it on July 18th. I took a shower the same night in the hospital when I had my son. Washing your hair is not something you need to wait for.

Are you from Japan? I heard that in Japanese culture that the new mother shouldn't wash her hair until 1 month after the birth of the baby. Other than that, you should wash your hair normally as you would prior to the baby's birth.

Congratulations!!
Well, according to chinese, you should not wash your hair a month after giving birth. But in the western world, there's no such things.
I am a chinese thus i suggest you dont wash your hair til end of next month. Try brushing baby powder to absorb the oil and buy a hair refresher that comes in a spray form to keep your hair smelling fresh.

You can wash her hair right now, but you can only give her sponge baths until her umbilical cord falls off. You would gently hold your baby over a sink and let the water come off your hand. Her body would be primarily lying on the sink countertop and you would hold her head in your other hand. You just be very careful. When she got her hair washed the first time this is how they did it.

If you're serious about this question, then you should look into getting some " Baby and Mommy's first year" books. You can wash your hair immediatley after having a baby.
