My friends and I have just realised that it is ok to tease your male friends about being/ or getting fat. But don't dare doing it to your female friends. Why?

I don't mean tease in the "na na naa na na" sense. I mean tease in the "poke you in the tummy" sense.

Guys are not as sensitive to that as a woman is. We generally don't pay that much attention to our looks... that's pretty much how we were raised. In fact, not so long ago if a man was "big" it was considered a sign or wealth and success.

Women from day one have been taught to work on their appearance and strive to maintain their beauty. Any statements that are contrary to that effect are not taken lightly.

So a word to the wise, lay off the weight AND age comments to women.

Women are very sensitive. The simple negative comment about them can hurt them so much. In a society like today, women are expected to live up to those Hollywood standard. In America, thin = beauty. Telling a woman that she is fat is telling her that she's not within society's expectation. Men on the other side don't get criticize as much as women do. If you look at Hollywood, there are many normal sized celebritries or male celebrities with a flabby stomach. Does that matter? No.

Funny that I can say all this, yet get offended if someone pokes my stomach. Even if I am not fat or overweight, I freak out.... that's what has happened to our society. We're all self conscious!

Because women care more about their appearance than men. Wanna know why that is? because over-weight men are ok to society, they like to show off about how much they eat, but if a woman gains few ounces, God forbid!
You should not tease anyone about their physical flaws, because most of the time it's not their fault and they probably feel bad about it anyway, so any form of teasing would be plain mean!

Women are much more the sensitive of the two sexes. Our innate vanity makes us more easily offended by remarks about our looks. Everyone will tell you that society wants women to be thin. Looking like the women of renaissance times where being heavy was a sign of wealth and was admired, well those days are long gone. Men and women are different after all, and this is part of our feminine make up. Maybe in a couple thousand years being bigger will be in style again.

Men are more comfortable with their bodies, or so it would seem. Women spend a fortune to lose weight, buy clothes that cover up bulge and make them look more slim. Men like to just let it all hang out. No one should tease anyone about their weight because you never know how they trully feel on the inside about the issue. I guess all in all, women are just more sensitive about their weight than men are.

It isn't acceptable to tease anyone about their weight regardless of gender. A lot of the guys that are getting teased probably feel pretty bad about it, but would never say anything about getting their feelings hurt because it wouldn't be considered "manly."

because is it "OK" for men to be grubby and overweight and NOT OK for women to be overweight. It's that double standard, like it's OK for a guy to whore around and be considered a stud, a playboy a "man about town, but if a female should sleep around, she's a whore, a slut, easy.....

Look at the stupid magazines and television. Men are unshaved, overweight and grubby. Yet the women are bone thin and perfectly coiffed.

Good manners as well as a compassionate nature would tell you that it is equality an unkind thing to do.
Because a guy may not react the same as a woman does isn't an indication that he wasn't hurt by a remark about his weight.

I don't feel that it is okay to tease male friends either. Just because people say that males are not as easily offended or sensitive as females does not mean that they won't have their feelings hurt. No one deserves that.
