Okay here is my 2 Wiccan cents worth of answer to that....
Cancer happens, it is a part of nature, it doesn't care who you are. Blaming it on a Divine person is just looking for a scapegoat. If modern medicine combined with faith can remove it then it was meant to be removed. If not, then it wasn't meant to be.
If you want to ask a person of faith why someone would be given cancer, or some other disease, and then be cured it could simply be to raise everyone (who is touched by this person) awareness cancer so they can join together support for the afflicted person.

OK.. let's say my son had cancer... that would be awful...
God obviously DID NOT allow it to happen....
Your right, God didn't prevent it, but he didn't cause it either...
If you pray, have faith and believe then God certainly COULD give you a miracle and cure my son.... or, perhaps the purpose for my son on this planet is not to be here to be an old age person. Maybe the struggle and the battle of life is the lesson to be learned...
You should really read the bible sometime... God isn't this being that sits around and points saying you are going to get sick, your going to be fit, your going to be rich, your going to be poor... he doesn't work like that.
That's like saying...I'm mad at Fred the Weather man.. he made it rain.. yeah right..
Good Luck

God can do what he wants. He also knows what you're thinking. Therefore, prayer would not change how God views your situation. Besides, is trying to boss God around going to help? Pray if it makes you feel better, but if you don't, no harm, no foul.
I saw a study on the news testing the effectiveness of prayer. After heart surgery, some people were prayed for, some weren't, and a bunch of other groups had slight variations (prayed for without being told, etc.). The chance of a medical complication was between 55% and 60% for all of the groups. That shows that prayer had no effect on the recovery. (It also shows that we aren't good at treating heart conditions if more than half of patients have complications.)

Becuase, everything happens for a reason,
i know its hard when someone you love is dying, or something terrible happens, and you want to blame God, but it doesn't help
but the truth is what does it matter what physically happens to you or anyone else, what really matters is where your heart is, whether you are going to heaven or not..... God maybe didn't help the sick child here on earth BUT he did give him and everyone else a chance to live forever, I think thats an alright trade off, you may not understand whats happening on earth now, but its all for a reason

Consider further that the all-knowing God already knows whether you will pray or not, how you will pray, what is in your heart, what is in the heart of your son, etc, etc. before you ever find out your son has cancer.
Hard to believe prayer makes one whit of difference when dealing with an omniscient god.

Ever shake your fist at God and ask why? That's also prayer.
We are mortal flesh and blood for a reason. We have souls for a reason. Try shaking your fist at God once in awhile. Try silencing your own wisdom, just for moment, and see if there's an answer. Once you get an answer you'll never want to stop praying. It's our meditation. That's why people pray.
But, no, it doesn't always stop death.
We are MORTAL, after all.

Um, dude, obviously God gave the kid cancer because you weren't praying enough in the first place. That's the sort of twisted, evil thing he likes to do. You'd better pray as much as you can and hope that it's not too late.

God can allow hardships in your life to bring you closer to him. Those harships can be an eternal blessing in that your faith is strengthened by them.
Proverbs 3:11-12 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

Does prayer work? Hundreds of millions prayed for God to stop Hitler, but God did nothing and 30 million+ died. Either God is heartless, powerless, both, or does not exist at all.

You have just answered the question to Does God exist ?
He doesn't so you don't need to bother to pray anymore.
