The usual invitation letter is to have your residency address stated on the letter, also it will helps if you can state down the company where you are currently working & your position. Also please state the reason of the visit and how long the duration of the visit is going to be.

No matter how perfect the letter, sometimes the person can still be rejected. The embassy may ask to see bank records or pay stubs of the foreigner and depending on how the immigration officer feels that day the person may still be rejected for a visiting visa. I had a friend that went for an interview and was told he had 2 much money and was denied a visitor's visa. When I inquired of why the visa was denied, I was told by the embassy that it was looking for substantial ties to the country from my friend. You will have to be careful as if the person gets denied for the visitor visa, the embassy will tell your friend to not come to embassy to apply for a visa for I think 5 years or so. However, it is a very long time.
As you probably are aware the USA is the ONLY place on Earth that makes it impossible to visit the legal way. If your friend doesn't get the visa, you can always sneak him/her through the borders of Mexico. That always works. :-)
