They are called "Vacation Bible School" and they are found all over America each summer, when school is out. They take advantage of parents who are working and they take in young impressionable minds and indoctrinate them. The convince them to believe the mythology of the Bible when they are the most vulnerable. They bribe these poor kids with games, punch and cookies and then force them to listen to Bible tales and watch little movies about Creation, Noah's Ark and Jesus walking on water. Then when they return to school, it's almost impossible for their science and history teachers to counteract all the damage that has been done to their minds.

Then they try to suck in the parents by having programs with the kids like plays in the evenings or at Sunday church.

It's a national shame and disgrace that we allow kids and parents to be abused like this!

The real question becomes the Vacation Bible School of which denomination? What are they teaching? What literature is used and who writes it? If they are teaching basic Bible stories this is part of literacy in our culture. Even if you do not agree with religion you need to know about it. And, if you are lucky maybe your kids will be taught ethics or manners. No one else seems to be teaching ethics or manners these days.

As someone else observed Vacation Bible School was around before most women worked.

Obviously, if they are teaching Revelations and Armageddon or things which frighten children and are based on literal transfer of the Bible into modern times there is a problem. Revelations already happened back when with the Roman Empire. The signs are historical.

Are you standing up against video games? Especially the violent ones which train youth in modern warfare? So they can be sent out as cannon fodder?

Do you limit TV to things like the History and Learning Channels?

Do you keep them off of Internet?

Are they involved in summer reading programs?

Videogames and TV are the biggest brainwashing propaganda mills around. Of course, most people do not believe brainwashing is a real scientific word. Children are impressionable and quick learners though.

I remember back when I was a kid and my mother sent us to vacation bible school. It was one of the best times in my childhood. Everyone was happy and nice. We had a really good time. The thing I liked best were all the sing alongs. I'm not a Christian. I never have been a Christian but I sure am glad that I got a chance to experience vacation bible school. No brainwashing. No bribing. Just a bunch of people coming together to celebrate what they believe and have a good time.

A lot of parents send their children to vacation bible school to get free babysitting for a week, or two. You don't have to worry about your children being brainwashed in bible school, if you spend some quality time with them on a regular basis. After all it isn't like the are being brainwashed to do drugs, or other things that are much worse. Get out of your" tunnel vision", and look at this from a different perspective.

You need to calm down about Vacation Bible School. It's been around as long as I've been alive (a good while) and is in every state in the US. Normally the parent has to agree to send the child there and it lasts a week (5 days) usually in the morning. Not much psyche scarring can take place in that short period of time. I remember VBS as a pleasant experience and now, as an adult, I am not Christian. So I guess they didn't brain wash me did they?

Sadly, anything having to do with christianity is pure brainwashing. It's best to keep your kids away from that kind of thinking, then they grow up to be better, more mentally stable adults.

You should investigate the "Vacation Bible Gun Camp" at www.landoverbaptist.org before you condemn all such camps.
