It took my German in-laws 2 hours a couple of months ago. Seems they photograph and fingerprint everyone now.

LAX is a wonderful, efficient airport. It runs perfectly until some inconsiderate airline lands a plane there. That event is a constant surprise for the folk who work there.
45 min to 3 hours is consistent with my experience.

Common sense. This is impossible to answer. It all depends on how many planes arrive at the same time, how many customs agents are working at the time you arrive, are there any problems with the people in front of you, etc.
Just be patient and don't get upset if it takes a while.

it can take anywhere from 45 min to 3 hours but usually no longer than that
