You need to use the scientific method to have a science project. I've taught sixth graders for twenty years, and you need to have a hypothesis before you even start. Then develop a procedure to test your hypothesis. Your textbook should discuss all the requirements.

Use electro magnets on both top and bottom, have a toggle switch on the board. When you click the button the magnet on top will switch on and the bottom one will switch off thus pulling the dummy elevator upwards, clicking the button again will produce an opposite action.

Electro magnet : coil lots of copper wire clockwise or counter clockwise (don't mix-up) on a small metal rod ... join both the ends of the wire to a battery - have 2 of these (for both top and bottom) don't forget to attach the toggle switch

But the easiest way to run this contraption would be on a small motor (old walkman or tape recorder will have one) just attach it at the bottom of the elevator with a belt (rubber band /strip) and make it run back and forth for the elevator to go up and down ;-)

Best of luck ...you can do it!

You can't.
Its a mechanical design project.
A sixth grader with a moniker of "I hate Bush"?
Why don't you just enjoy childhood?

In follow-up. Instead of working on our science project, perhpas you should occasionally watch the weather channel. You were only given a 5 day warning of a cat-5 hurricane. Seems like you have a problem following directions . . . .Your lovely local liberal gov't leaders were worthless - did nothing for you. But they were out of harms way weren't they ? Katrina was a local screw-up. You are lucky Bush did anything. I could care less about New Orleans with your kind of attitude.

The picture won't show for me. Regardless, if you want to know why it isn't a science project or how you can turn it into one, I'd suggest you ask your teacher. S/he's liable to know better than any of us.

Ordinarily, I would help you. But since you choose to hate Bush, I can't. So deal with it on your own you lazy liberal.

'nuff said?
