I know someone with an almond orchard that says that the correct way to say the word almonds is "ah-mens" not "al-monds"
I'm not quite sure if that's actual English or made up in some way. I say Al-monds and they think I'm dumb. Somebody pPlease help. If you say ah-mens please verify why

"ah-mens" - they drop the L, and the "a" in "ah-" is like the "a" in "ask" it just sounds wrong

The correct pronunciation is as your friend suggested, but the correct spelling is "almonds".

Almond is pronounced - a'mend, am'end, al'mend, all-mond or all'mend it is the eddible nutlike kernel of the small dry peachlike fruit of a tree. also used as almond flavor; almond shape, or almond color. Amond is a word that I don't believe exists as spelled. The closest I think you will find is Amon which has to do with a diety of Egyptian Thebes. If you are taking Amond fron someone's reference to Almonds, it is not uncommond, especially in the south (Tennessee and Georgia as example) for differing dialect of the same word with the same meaning, just sounding a little different. For instance, in Minnesota they would say "How are you all doing?" While in the south they would say: "How y'all doing?" It means the same thing.

It's Almonds. Spelled and pronounced that way because that's the way it is. Just because someone has an almond orchard doesn't mean that they speak perfect English.

Once they are off the tree, they are called Amonds. On the tree, they are called Almonds. They shake the "L" out of them to get them to fall out of the tree. It's a joke.

It s called an almond when it s on the tree. When they knock them off during harvest, they knock the hel-L out of them and then they re called amonds.
