It is wrong if you put it before God. God wants us to have entertainment. As long as you serve God, you'll be ok. Ask him for guidance. And, study his word.

St Paul writes in 1 corrinthians "...all things are lawful for me, yet not all things are suitable."
There is nothing wrong with having a few things that we enjoy and be passionate about...but I think it is wrong when a particular obsession starts to draw me away from Christ.
So if you feel that you begin to love the music more than God, or that in order to play good music you have to play/listen to inapproprate language or blasephemouse material...I think that is where the problems lie.
Yet, better still, here is a better question...if you God has given you the talent of music, why not use it for the greater good of man-kind and Glorification of God???

I hope this helps...God bless you my friend.

If you communicate your love of God through music, how would that make God jealous? You're celebrating his glory and goodness, right?

That's not worshipping false icons or any of that nonsense.

God says that you will not worship any GOD over me. You can be passionate, you can be obsessed.. but when you rise someone to the level of a God, that is what is wrong.

You cannot. Any happiness or any moment of joy that you bestow upon yourself and not spent in suffering is not accepting what jesus died for.

Any time you smile or enjoy an obsession or anything, it is as if you were stabbing the baby jesus in the nativity scene.
