So, I have a question for everyone. If I'm attacked by a person who looks a certain way (particular race) should I hate everyone in that race because of my one encounter with this person? So why hate all pit bulls for what you hear about the FEW doing? Isn't that being prejudice?

I don't want answers saying that pits should be killed or anything like that. I have a pit and I love her.

Isn't this the same stupid logic?

My point is...don't hate dogs you don't know...just because you THINK you know how they ALL are!!!

But what about that irrational logic I used?

I love the responses from people...I'm glad yall are starting to see my point...I mean if I hate a group for one thing another did...then I'm a racist...hmmmm....makes sense to me!

The point is, can I hate everyone of a certain race because of what one person did? So why is it ok for people to hate a full bloodline of dogs because of what some bad people did to them (training them to fight)?

You're absolutely right. If we carried this logic to it's extreme, there would be no humans left, as humans as a species are more vicious and violent than any other species. By condemning all pit bulls to death for the sins of a few, we're teaching our children racism, sexism and specie-ism.

Pits are just the dogs of the moment. In the 1980's, dobermans were the breed that was seen as dangerous and vicous.

The bad press ends up creating a cyclical effect. People hear how vicious pits are. Some then get pits and train them and breed them to be mean. These are the ones you hear abouton the news. It's all about training.

By the way, I have a pit mix. He has only ever shown a vicious side towards squirrels. Other than that, he's a complete baby who absolutely adores people, especially children.

I agree. I have a pitbull who was abused when she was a puppy. She is the complete opposite of society's version of a pit bull. She is afraid of everybody and she doesn't bite. If she sees someone, she hides somewhere and doesn't come out until that person is gone. And if the person comes over to pet her, she just starts trembling and tries to scramble away but she doesn't threaten the person. Are you kiddig me? Pit bulls are naturally aggressive? I would like you to first meet my dog and then tell me what you think of pit bulls. I hate it when I'm walking my dog and people just start going the other direction, start pulling their children out of the way, or start yelling at me to not walk my dog. Do we really live in a world of idiots who believe everything media says about "dangerous dogs"? I have neighbors who won't come near my house and my dog is outside with me. It's exactly like racism. People hate a dog because of how they look. Pit bulls are just big babies.

You will find that every where you go people have to pick on a certain big breed cause they are " known to attack" or what they see on TV. such as the Rottweiler. well i can tell you this I own a Rotty i have had her for 11 years and everyone who has met her tells me how sweet she is and how could anyone possibly think she could be mean..any breed of dog can bite but you dont normaly hear about that cause you dont hear it every day.
Till this day i truely believe its all in the way the dog was raised even dogs that are agressive..just like humans if your taught to do something you do it..same with dogs! Its a learned behavior and those out there that say they have raised their dog right and it out of the blue attacked a child or adult, most likely that person was doing somethin to the dog that the dog didnt like or it surprised the dog and in return bit. it happens even in small breeds!
If you are aware that your dog can be agressive dont bring the dog around people or other animals that will cut down the "bad name" some of these dogs have.

It is unfortunate that pit bulls have gotten such a bum rap. And that is due to irresponsible owners and breeders. Far too often these dogs have been trained to be overly aggressive, and when they act on that, it is news. A pit bull needs an owner that is going to take the time to properly socialize and train them so they can be the happy family dog that you know they can be. Since it sounds like you have a great dog yourself, why not take the opportunity to show people how friendly they can be? When you are out walking, stop and talk to people that seem interested. They get to see for themselves that not all pits are bad, and the more interaction your dog has with other people the better for him.

Though not all pitbulls attach people, there is a perception that they are dangerous. There is a valid reason for this. They were bred for the purpose of fighting. They are bred with a tendency toward aggression.

Pit bulls are not the only breed to have been bred this way. Many people are afraid of dobermans. I have never met an aggressive one in my work. Careful breeding has lessened the chance of getting a mean one.

If there is any fault in the way pits are viewed, the blame must be put square on the shoulders of those unscrupulous people that breed them for their sick pleasure. The blood sport.

I live next door to a 10 y/o female pit. She is so docile that she stays on her property without restraint.

Pit Bulls are not a bad breed, they just got a bad reputation for a few incidents. All bad animals are created by bad owners through neglect, abuse, and ignorance of their chosen breed. Pit Bulls are no different, the aggressive ones just have poor guidance from their owners. I have a rescued Rottweiler and they have gotten the same negative reputation over the years. It breaks my heart that all these "so called" vicious animals are ending up in shelters and being euthanized because the people that owned them didn't research the breed and decide if they could care for their needs before they got them. I rescue animals that have been discarded by their owners and try to find them loving responsible homes. They just need love, dicipline, security, proper diet, & exercise and they are good as gold. Just like KIDS!

i totally agree. i love pit bulls and they are wonderfull dogs. i dont understand why so many people hate them just because a few of them did something bad. i mean if people hated a whole group because one person in that group did something bad then everyone would hate everyone because i don't think there is a single person that has not done something bad. in there life. correct me if i'm wrong but i think thats the truth

I do rescue and love the pits. Most of us do that have gotten to know the breed. I am so happy to hear all your positive comments. Thank you so much I can't wait to send your question to everyone I know. We have a ban on Pits so its very difficult for us to rescue them but we all sneek them in our homes when ever we can. Its also very difficult to find them homes. Pits thrive with decent families but with the bad rap they get those families are scared of them. I fostered one that had been hit by a car and at an adoption we told this young boy he was a pit and his mother yanked him away. I was furious and had to leave. It was all great as long as she didn't know he was a pit. One of my first rescues was a baby pit that had been abandoned at the vets office. She got a great home with her own little girl and is still so happy to see my daughter when she goes to see her.

Pits are wonderful and they don't necessarily need to be "trained". The basic commands they pick up on so quickly with a training biscuit and a smile. The breed is so loyal to its family and amazingly eager to please. They have an inate ability to protect their loved ones and if you ever get the full story on a pit attack in most instances someone else was showing aggression.

I have mutt mixes of labs and retrievers but you show them someone that is acting like a damn fool they will want to attack too. The most loveable of any breed is going to want to protect its family from anything they consider dangerous. You have to have that bond with your pet to let them know things are safe.

Again thank you for the positive comments
