I say good caught people may actually STOP when a light turns red.

But others claim that more accidents occur due to people slamming on their brakes so as not to get a ticket, and they get rear-ended cause they stopped so abruptly. So what's your take?

They are outstanding. Here in Arizona, the red light problem was huge. Arizona had three cities in the top 5 nationwide for red light fatalities. My city (Phoenix) was far and away the worst in the nation for DEATHS AT RED LIGHTS. The city went to the camera system and the number of fatalities decreased by over half at intersections all around the city, not just at those with red light cameras.

Used to be that when I taught a defensive driving class, I would expect about 1/3 of the people to be there for red lights. Now I expect about 1/10 of the people. Accidents and tickets have decreased, which is good.

As for people rear-ending you, that is their fault. Aren't you supposed to drive far enough behind someone so that you can stop if they do? And it is not like people just nail their brakes to the floor - most people realize that they are going to stop on the yellow light and hit the brakes then. Besides, if I was to choose an accident, I will take a rear-end collision over a t-bone collision any day...

As someone who was broadsided by an idiot that ran a red light, I'm all in favor. It was the wee hours of the morning and the jerk claimed that I had run the light, not him. Luckily for me, there was a camera on the signal and it caught the accident BEAUTIFULLY! When the cop pointed out the camera, the moron insisted that that he had a green light. When we got the pics two days later, they told a very differenct story. His insurance company couldn't settle quickly enough! LOL!

First:

No one should follow so close that they hit a guy/girl who stops quickly in front of them.

Second:

The cameras are good, because they catch law breakers.
They are BAD because there are LESS cops hired to patrol the streets.

Cities love them because they don't take breaks at the donut shop, NO: sick leave, vacations, pension, or medical expenses,
don't go on strike, and work 24hrs a day.

its good if you are in a wreck and its not your fault and the other side says it was your fault for killing there kids it will come in very handy then so i say yes they are good and people need to drive ahead of them self's so they don't slam on there breaks , the cameras are not going away there on the role so all must get used to them instead of speeding through or slamming there brakes, they all need to be more aware and drive safer and get used to them cause there here to stay , take care

I have no problem with the cameras. If everyone one would drive the speed limit and stay their distance they wouldn't have to slam on their brakes to begin with...and cause an accident....

it good to have the cameras at traffic lights because if there is a accent dent, there on camera so you can see who is in the right or wrong and if cameras going to stop hoons before a accented
happens and if a car hits you at the back there in the wrong as they were not watching the car in front of them

Good, because eventually people will learn not to drive on red light

i think that they are good, it gets cops off the corners so they can chase criminals rather than red light runners.
