No. I live in Quebec. It is a French speaking province. I think people should speak French here. I am an English speaking person. You are a racist if you don't think that you should learn to sp[eak Spanish if you live in Mexico. Does that make sense?

I don't know if you are racist or not.But if thats the only reason for wondering, then I don't think so.I mean, everyone has a right to speak their own language at home, thats their right. But I also believe that everybody should know english if you live here, atleast try to learn. It's alot easier for everybody else to communicate with you. It's not a matter of racism,it's a matter of common sense. If you don't speak english, but go somewhere by yourself where theres no interpretor, how will you communicate your needs? What if theres an emergency and you need to ask for help?Anything could happen and no one would understand.
Plus the fact that I know a few families where the kids speak english but the parents don't.And the kids can really get away with alot from school and the parents would never know cause the kids interpret when the teacher calls or writes a letter. They can say it's anything and the parents wouldn't know. :-).Good for the kids but really bad for the parents.
I respect any language, but for safety reasons alone, everyone here should speak english,it could mean life or death in some circumstances. So if thats your only reason, then I don't think you are a racist.

Your not a racist, narrow minded perhaps but not a racist. Keep in mind the period of time that these "Mexicans" have been in CA, the sircle of people surrounding them and their age.
If they've been in America for lets say 3 months, you've got to remember learning a new language is difficult as well as time consuming, so for the time being it's easier for them to convert back to Spanish.
If these "Mexicans" are surrounded by fellow mexicans, what's the use of speaking english then?
I hope this helps, and don't be to hard on yourself.

They probably should but what if they can't? My belief is any person of any nationality living in a country which speaks other than their mother tongue should speak the local language - always. The also should dress in local manner ie no burka's etc No, I don't think you are racist but by all accounts Spanish is to become the most widely spoken language in the US within the next ten years and with the laws of democracy etc, perhaps you will be the one to end up learning Spanish!!!!

R U comfortable speaking UR native Tongue?
Course U R, can't U extend that privilege 2 others?
Not racist, praps UR just a bit Picky.
If UR saying " I can speak my native tongue & U MR Mexican cannot"! It is a tad Harsh, isn't it?
Did U ever realise that the English language is the most difficult language 2 speak/learn & write after Mandarin Chinese?
Some pick it up quickly others it may take time.

It would only make you a racist if you thought Mexicans living in CA were the only group of immigrants that needed to speak English and not the Chinese, Persian, Fillipino, Russian, etc. immigrants.

I don't think you are. When I deployed to Japan, I took the time and effort to at least learn enough Japanese and Kanji to get me around town and be able to find the Police station and bathrooms. But Don't be fooled, like the Japanese, I bet a lot more Mexicans speak a great deal more English than they let on.

Does language have anything to do with race? Is English a race? Is Spanish a race? Is French a race? Of course not, so it's not racist. A common language unites us as different languages create barriers.

well then americans living in any other county of the world should speak that specific country's language also. Yes they should try to learn english, atleast enough to be able to some what communicate. But thats their business and thier benefit you're no one to judge!

Absolutely not!!! I agree with you 100%, in fact, if I were president I would adopt English as our official language, requiring all American Citizens to speak it. We are the only country that doesn't have an official language and I can't understand why!
