In some states, (Texas is not one of them, surprisingly) any civilian (with the exception of convicted felons) can carry a handgun, provided that it is NOT concealed. If you walk around with a holstered pistol in plain view, it's no problem. In many other states, Texas included, there is an eight hour class you can take, which includes a classroom session on gun safety and firearms laws, then a range session where you have to prove proficiency with the weapon, you pay the licensing fee and you can carry a concealed weapon.

ddrjake - Do you buckle your seatbelt? If so, why are you expecting to get into an accident? Do you go to the doctor for checkups? If so, why are you expecting to get cancer? Get the point I am trying to make? It's not about wanted to use a gun it's about wanting to have a gun available if you need it.

www.packing.org is your one-stop shop for concealed carry related issues included a very detailed page on the laws for each state. Some states are shall-issue (thankfully most), some are may-issue, and 2 + DC don't allow it at all. In some states you don't need any permit at all! There is too much variation in the law so the best advice is to look up the law before you even think about bringing in a gun. The responsibility to know the law is yours and yours alone. Get it from a reliable sourch; not just "some guy on the internet". That won't help you much if you get arrested.

In America, its part of our Constitution to be able to carry guns. To carry it concealed, you have to pass background check and take a special class.

You cannot be a felon and own a gun.

It depends on where you live. In the USA we have the right to bear arms, but typically need permits and licensing check with your local authorities :D

I just don't get it. Why would anyone want a weapon to carry around with you? it's like you're expecting trouble, either to start or finish it.
